Starring Ray Brooks, Sharon Duce and Lisa Geoghan, the series concentrated on the ups and downs of small-time London gambler Robbie Box (played by Brooks) and the effect that his poker addiction has on his long suffering girlfriend Jan Oliver (Duce) and her daughter Debby (Geoghan).

A interesting watch. Plenty of 1980's poker and off-course bookie scenes.

I saw this and loved it. It may have replaced Big Break a snooker themed ducking n diving drama starring Robert Lindsay and  Paul McGann .

Ray Brooks is a lovely guy.  Brighton boy; he used to drink in my lunchtime local, The Cricketers in the Lanes. I hope he is well at 85.

Growing up in London in 70s and 80s...I knew plenty of people like Robbie Box... Lived from one bet to the next, one day skint, the next flush...All characters... A lot of them frequented the snooker halls, usually above Burton shops for some reason

Tracksuit Dave fits the above profile, btw

Yes indeed Reg, the snooker halls were a preferred habitat of gamblers after dark.
We had one in Tulse Hill that had lock ins once the manager Phil was sorted out some dosh.
Bottles of Holstein Pils were the tipple of choice over games of crash and a few cheeky lines to stay alert of course over the weekend.

That's the 80's for you.

Spielers all over the place up to the 1960s when the law changed and permitted casinos and betting shops.
