If you've only heard of one player Elis it just means you only follow one tournament a year , other wise you'd know them all.

Are you like the wife who asked me what tennis players did for the other 50 weeks of the year  Laugh

I don't follow tennis but was interested to learn about this so called "left woke" who appear to.  Why do we constantly have to listen to these daft terms about people who might have a different view on life?

If ever there was a more pretentious & patronising sport than tennis, I've not heard of it. The pre match analysis & post match interviews are truly stomach churning. Its the only sport where I hope BOTH opponents lose!

Just means you haven't been keeping up with it elisjohn. As we get older we tend not to follow sport, music etc as much as we used to and most people have an era they relate to more than others. I did spot Rod Laver and Anne Jones in the crowd though.
Could say the same about cricket really if you only follow the tests through the summer, whatever happened to Gooch, Lamb, Botham, Gower, Willis etc?

You'd go a long way to find a better trading sport if you apply sensible logic and select appropriate players , it's up there with T20 and U.S Sports.

Agree with Hayden.

There are more "mental midgets" on the WTA tour than you used to get on the football forum!

Mr Hayden- agreed about the analysis & so called experts, but imho, nothing can possibly beat tennis for pretentiousness. At least soccer & boxing were "working man's" sport. Golf less so, & tennis absolutely not dont you know old bean guffaw guffaw! I can see how great tennis is for traders, but personally, I went to uni all those years to be a professional, not a trader! Wink

Each to their own Slicer but this millennium i've preferred trading over working for a living to enrich others.

When you're in the game with making money being the sole purpose then pretentiousness becomes a red herring.

Best of luck mate    Happy

Absolutely 100% agree Mr Hayden. Working clever on here beats working hard slicing people, even privately. If you found THE WAY trading, good luck to you & may you continue to prosper. Pretentiousness doesn't count, your profit statement does!

Not quite sure why only left woke people would follow tennis! I do follow it and I am certainly not left and anything but woke1 At 80yo, I have an afternoon nap! My wife, aged 78 still plays twice a week and she is neither left or woke either. It is hard to keep up with who is still in the singles and of course the BBC largely ignore the doubles. Seldom seen so many retirements but it has increased year by year as the payments for turning up have increased. £60k for losing one match is not bad.

in it.

slicer, why do you watch the pre and post match stuff? I do agree that is awful but I only watch it until I can get to the remote. The BBC only need one person at each match but of course we all contribute £169 a year so they employ 2 or 3. I watch Rugby, Football, Cricket, Athletics and never watch any of the talking heads on any of them. why they need 4 people to talk about a rugby or football match an hour before the start is beyond me. If there is live sport on any channel, that is what I am watching. Thirty seconds after the final whistle I am watching something else or reading a book.

Mr Barstool, thanks for the advice on calories. But I've lost so much weight thanks to the AAWGO diet I invented, the occasional treat does no harm. Mr Sageform, I no longer watch any pre game analysis etc on any sport. The sound is muted or I switch o another channel until the sport starts. Can't remember the last book I read. All those years at university destroyed reading for me.  Have a good day everyone.

Not so strange if you read & learnt from text books over so very many years.
