Went today and had a decent bet at evens a few weeks back. Not a great at present and I doubt if he ever will be one. Still unimpressive in looks. Hadn't seen him to start at Epsom on g/s but no point anyway since they are downhill as they pass the stand. Today , I was side on, and he has a very low action. I do agree with them that the ground (always atrocious for flat racing when it gets like that at Sandown) but it needs a really good performance on fast ground to "Justify" (see what I did there!) his reputation. Golden Horn only just won this race so I am prepared to give him some allowance but I would never be backing him again at odds on in soft-ish ground.

Isn't that what makes an exceptional horse , winning top races outside their comfort zone.
I can think of so many top trainers that wouldn't have run the horse. |
|
By:
Quite agree hayden, but I am only making my point in relation to the "hype" that as surrounded him. I think he may prove himself a very good horse in due course but not a great....so far. I have had a decent few £ on him at 8/1 for the Classic at Del Mar which (health permitting) I am lucky enough to be going to. I really do look forward to this horse running on fast ground. I think you will see a different horse. We all want that. Good luck chap

Yes Donegal can't argue , it's all about expectations and anything short of that is deemed unimpressive.
Hope you make it over there mate , have a safe one ![]() |

16th July the op. Should be ok but I'll be on the easy list for a good few weeks. Get yourself checked "down under" as they say. Hoping to make Goodwood end of August. Still be messing around on here I expect. Be having a full thrash at The July Meeting for sure!!
