The higher a man’s IQ, the more likely he is to bet on horse racing, according to new research from academics at the University of Eastern Finland and the University of Liverpool.
Commenting on the findings, Professor David Forrest from the University of Liverpool Management School said: “Our research found a strong correlation between men with a high IQ and those who take part in skilled gambling, such as betting on horse racing.

That's called a personal opinion fred , one mans back is another mans lay that's what makes an exchange.

That's the lure of horse racing for some . Way before exchange. Finding the odds compiler mistakes and moving in

Agree but it's still just personal opinion because it can't be proven as skilful before the race , it's easy after the race as you just need to look at the result.
You could make a case out for comparing a p/l over an exceptionally long period of time but i'd still not regard it as skilful unless you can prove why something will work before it happens.

Anyway fred it's all about opinions.

How would you know that , as regards picking horses using so called skill i don't do that ever , i've criteria that makes it so the horses pick me by theories so i'm a million from skilful at selection but believe i'm ok at knowing the right criteria.

The only use i'd have for a form book would be if i had a table with one leg shorter than the other three , i'm good at lateral thinking and i listen to what Einstein preaches but not a clue whether my iq is high or low.

The extremely small minority could be intelligent...in comparison, the larger majority...? Was this research sponsored by bookies? If so, it can be easily dismissed with confidence.

My ambivilence towards OP statement.

many years ago when managing a betting shop branch, a locally known punter walks in with his cronies looks at the screen and asks one of them to jot down the 'jolly' and stake a nifty on it.

The aforementioned couldn't read or write and always defaulted to the first on the betting list.

It was a Virtual race, but that was either lost on him or it mattered not.

His swagger was that he'd rock up in a branch with bank bags sealed with cash.

Doubt he had an IQ more than 75.

Horseracing is a mug's game. Has this been lost on the researcher?
