getting leathered again, now british #5 and world #168
how she won the US Open must be one of the biggest mysteries in the history of world sport. went back the year after and got punted in the first round ...

Emma Raducanu looked a different player yesterday from Monday. Hardly any unforced errors and outplayed Elise Mertens who is the No 1 doubles player in the world and has been 12th ranked in singles. I enjoy watching Katie Boulter as well but so far today she is a class below Raducanu yesterday.

Great graph that one , flip flop from 1.07 then another from 1.17 , when you gat two players outside the top10 whose rankings total 129 you've a fair chance of some spikes , as with horse racing lower grade the better for low lays.

Boulter played absolutely terrible throughout. Couldn't find the baselines and couldn't get the ba!l over the net when returning Dart's weak second service. Pathetic.

Certainly a very different Raducanu from last years form. She looked very rusty in her first round match but rounds 2 and 3 give her a real chance of winning the tournament. Sakkari had no answers at all.

Yes it's falling away a bit but the big hurdle was when Sabalenka dropped out injured , you'd think Coco would take the world of beating in the bottom half but she plays compatriot the billionairess next round so we'll see. Raducanu has dropped out so many times injured herself so probably time to stop making excuses for others dropping out as it's an integral part of the sport to stay healthy.
I never play the outright market so no financial interest for me either way , good luck all

that's worrying but not unexpected, I think she will get beat this year but as long as she stays injury free and keeps her confidence she will win Wimbledon in the next 3 years.

Andy Murray's Wimbledon career is over after Emma Raducanu pulled out of their planned appearance in the mixed doubles.
Former world number one Murray, 37, was due to play alongside his fellow Briton on Saturday evening at the All England Club.
Raducanu, 21, said she has "some stiffness" in her right wrist.
She moved into the fourth round of the women's singles with a dominant two-set win over Greek ninth seed Maria Sakkari on Friday.
"I have decided to make the very tough decision to withdraw from the mixed doubles," she said.
"I’m disappointed as I was really looking forward to playing with Andy but I've got to take care."

Murray, a two-time singles champion at Wimbledon, was playing at SW19 for the last time before retiring later this year.
The Scot is also said to be "disappointed" that he is unable to play alongside 2021 US Open champion Raducanu.
Murray's mother Judy, in response to a post on X from television presenter Marcus Buckland describing Raducanu's decision as "astonishing", wrote: "Yes, astonishing."
He was not permitted to find a replacement partner for Raducanu under tournament rules because the draw had already been made.
Murray and Raducanu, who were set to play China's Zhang Shuai and El Salvador's Marcelo Arevalo, have been replaced by an alternate pairing.
It means Murray made his final appearance on Thursday when he lost alongside older brother Jamie in the men's doubles.
A video montage of Murray's career was played on the Centre Court big screen after the match, leaving the former world number one in tears as thousands of fans showed their appreciation.
Murray pulled out of the singles on Tuesday as he continues to recover from a back operation on 22 June.
The three-time major champion is planning to retire later this year, with the Paris 2024 Olympic Games set to be his final event.
'Schedule put Raducanu in very awkward position' - analysis BBC tennis correspondent Russell Fuller at Wimbledon
Saturday’s schedule played a major part in Emma Raducanu's decision.
Being asked to play in the fourth match of the day on Court One is the same as being asked to play in a night session.
And given this Grand Slam is a predominantly daytime event, you can understand why a player would not want to spend all evening on site with a fourth-round singles match the following day.
The schedule put Raducanu in a very awkward position, and has led to a decision which will be very disappointing for Murray and everyone looking forward to what would have been a fun finale to his Wimbledon career.
This was no ordinary mixed doubles pairing, although players do regularly prioritise singles over doubles.
And there can be no change of partner once the draw is made. So instead of Murray teaming up with another British player, American alternates Rajeev Ram and Katie Volynets come into the draw.

A great British player who had the " misfortune " to be around and competing against three GOAT's at the same time , in another era could have been double digit grand slams he was that good.

Hopefully Slippy, she has the talent, unlike Dart who once again found her limitations today, Emma has the mentality of a winner its her fitness which is in doubt, in regard to the mixed I doubt very much they would have won it anyway so I think she's done the right thing.

If I was advising Raducanu I would have been pleading with her not to play mixed. This just could be her one and only chance to be Wimbledon Champion and I would not even let her do any interviews until after the final is finished. She has an easy game on paper on Monday and after that it will be down to just one or two shots between win and lose.

Think she is mentally an enigma, hard to say what really brings the pressure on but can dig herself out of trouble but then it's a diff pressure and she wobbles

I dont usually bet much on tennis, especially womens tennis, so thats a £490 bonus for not much risk. 1/5 was way too short. Im sure a few of you will have won alot more, but Im happy with that

Such a shame, not sure she will ever win another grand slam or be inside the top 10.
She is a marketing dream as well, young, attractive, comes across as a very likeable person. Easy to get behind and support.
Hopefully I am wrong and she does come back and becomes a top player.

You can be too passive albeit still in the easier pickings of week 1 , half the unforced errors of Lu and yet outhit by 52-19 winners , have to raise your game to be more positive than that as those stats just let the opponent play ok to win.
Gauff looks the class act in this half anyway and there's always a big jump in standard from week 1 to week 2 on Monday , interesting match on the way Coco vs the billionairess.

That's a bold prediction werbie to say Sun is a future winner , she's 23 with no pedigree beyond a grand slam 2nd rnd before this tournament and tbh she's beaten nobody of note or ranking this week that's known to favour the green stuff.
Easy to get carried away with a result like this and one thing Sun had in her favour today was being a leftie as a means of opponent variety , to me they're both handicappers with massive improvement required to be listed never mind hit the classics with any sort of regularity.
You can get players on this surface who have apparent decent tournaments but go backwards when stepping into the hardcourt season as grass is so unique but outdated as many would say.
Time will tell as always
Tough match up this for Gauff vs friend and compatriot.

Even in the unlikely event she does win it acey it won't alter the stats for today , incredible 44 UE and says a lot about the quality of opponent when you give them 44 free points and still end up winning comfortably.

Sadly she didn't she looks to have it all wonderful grace and physique moves like a gazelle however mentally she looks hugely fragile and you have to be super tough to be a winner of these slams consistently.

What a disappointing result after looking so good especially in dispatching the no.9 seed. Lulu Son just went for it resulting in many unforced errors and surely taken out next game.

Don't get me wrong acey with what's left in the field she's not without a chance with her game suited to green but as a future star she's a million to win any of the other slams , the top players ( not sure there's too many left in this tournament though ) won't allow her the opportunity to volley tactically with any regularity , these coaches are smart cookies all year around.
With her pedigree she was rightly so a 400/1 shot at the start and impossible to back unless you were mystic meg ( RIP ) but the case to back her now is seemingly based on her beating a flaky 135 world ranking player in a match were their combined world rankings were 258.
Good luck with the bet though mate in an admittedly sub standard field as no financial interest myself
No doubt more banter to follow if she wins on Saturday

As anticipated Son easily taken out by Vekić, just a surprise it took three sets. Makes Radacanu's performance as disappointing as it looked at the time.
