A race won by some decent types down the years but also used to showcase horses for owners in Hong Kong and Australia to purchase so it’s fair to say no one’s hanging around here and the race hasn’t disappointed with plenty of nice types eg I can easily someone like Fouroneohfever ending up in Hong Kong with a new name like Ninja Baseball Batman or something.
The one for me was Gallantly who could be chucked in off 88 / 8 stone 10 after winning his maiden at Chester last time out.
Interestingly Secret State won that same exact Chester maiden in 2022 before doubling up here and 2013 Space Ship almost pulled off the double by finishing 2nd here when beaten 1 length by Elidor for Mick Channon so it’s a very useful maiden.
Lovely pedigree too…Frankel out of a French 1000 Guineas who later on in her career won on Firm going around Gulfstream.
He’s bred to be classy and this being his 3rd run of the season he should be cherry ripe for a big effort.
The big query is him going up in trip again but I’m hoping the lads had this as his big plan for some time.
After the Vase yesterday Aidan mentioned that many of his were diverted from the Derby early on with different targets because of City of Troy so it’s plausible they decided early on doing this particular double with him in which case they probably see the extra 2f as no issue for him.
The draw in 15 is another issue but they’ve won from 20, 21 and 22 in the past so it can’t be that bad.
Anyways I thought he was interesting…it’s mainly because he’s on a very nice mark and I want to think we haven’t seen the best of him yet and I think he’s a fair price win or lose.
