A tasty  aperitif before the main action starts at Royal Ascot with an interesting pair of progressive chasers heading the market.

I’m a great fan of the favourite - Tonto Foley – who is on a hat-trick. Having made a promising chasing debut with some exuberant leaps but was novicey at the third last taking off too early and taking half the fence with him finishing 3rd. Won it’s next two, one with a front running performance  the next with a stalking run. In that last start he was ridden with confidence by today’s pilot, his jockey taking a look behind on the home turn seeing the fav about to move up on his outside (his jockey also looked confident). The pair quickened on the run to the last with Tonto Foley producing  good leap    (despite taking off a tad early and dragging his back leg through the top of the fence) taking a length out of the fav, and seeing the race out best winning by the best part of 4 lengths, the fav eased slightly once his chance of winning was gone. I’m looking forward to seeing him jump again today.

That said it doesn’t matter how well you jump if something falls in front of you and brings you down as happened to - Tropical Talent  - LTO at Southwell when still travelling well enough in mid field. He’s a novice himself having only his second chase start when returning after a 124 day break to finish a 4¼ length 4th in a class 5 chase. Won it’s next start when made 5/2 fav. That last run when unseating was in a class 4 0-110, and is back down to a class 5 0-100 and is feared.

On a line through  Tropical Talent  - Moves Like Monty – who was beaten 10 lengths on their penultimate start is 10 pound better off for 12 lengths. Was pulled up last start but a return to that form could see this winning pointer it the frame.

The 9yo - Floating Rock – has class 3 chase winning form back in 2022 off a rating of 122 – now down to 93 off the back of 6 subsequent hurdle starts and showed his first form since LTO when a 5¾ third returns to chasing today in  class 5.

An interesting race in which I hope Tonto Foley can prevail

Nice to see someone giving detailed reasons for backing a horse they like, esp away from Royal Ascot, good luck Martin you put up some good selections.
