Mate of mine knows a lady friend who is part of supply chain to Royal Ascot (drinks, food something....). About 3 weeks ago she was offered  seats in one of those restaurants for nothing. Apparently well short of selling out. Ascot had the choice of leaving 30% unoccupied ; reducing the price (and then having to repay the difference to those who had already paid full price) or give the vacant tables away. They chose the latter so my mate and his friend had Wednesday afternoon finding out what £2k+ would get you if you were daft enough to pay.

Thank goodness for Royal Ascot and the profit it generates. Apparently the NH meetings at Ascot all lose money and NH racing calender would be seriously diminished without the Ascot meetings.
