From the RP site:

Lorcan Williams received a three-day ban at Uttoxeter on Thursday after the clerk of the scales reported that the jockey had deliberately attempted to weigh in without his saddle.

Williams had finished an 11-length second to Edison Kent on 13-8 favourite Wavering Down in the 2m7½f handicap hurdle after which clerk of the scales Claudia Marelli then reported that Williams had weighed in at 11st 1lb having weighed out at 10st 13lb.

After Williams and Marelli were interviewed, the 24-year-old rider was suspended for a further three days for weighing in 2lb overweight.

Winning rider Lilly Pinchin was also cautioned for careless riding by the stewards for allowing Edison Kent to shift left-handed when insufficiently clear of Wavering Down.

So he weighed in 2lb heavier than he weighed out. I'm struggling to work out how that could happen and how he knew that to be the case as well hence the reason he didn't have his saddle with him when he weighed in. Something hasn't gone as expected. Any logical suggestions? I'm surprised this hasn't had any mention before now.

I've always wondered if weight can be removed from the saddle pre race and put back in post race. Even switching saddles altogether pre and post race, lighter version pre race swapped back to the original post race. Closed saddling boxes pre race, long debriefs after the race. Too many Dick Francis novels I suppose...

I remember a trainers son being banned for tampering with a saddle, I cant remember all the details so had better not say any more.

Didn't read about this before, surprisingly

Very strange as you say
So, the jockey alone weighs 11-1 with boots and silks but no saddle?
The saddle alone must be 2 lbs without any lead added?
Therefore, with the saddle he would have weighed in about 4 lbs heavier?

Plus, I thought the offence was to weigh more than the allowed amount LIGHT?

More questions than answers

Perhaps he managed to weigh out without his saddle, and tried to do the same thing weighing in, but got caught.

Perhaps, but it still doesn't explain being 2lb heavier post race though.

12 month ban stops it …

Well he was made to weigh in with the saddle, having tried to weigh in without it.

I'd have thought a typical jumps saddle would weigh more than 2lb though.

I feel there's definitely more to this than is being reported.

On April 13, he was beaten a short head on Rouge De L'Quest (7/2, unlucky, impeded by loose horse), but he put up 2 lb overweight, at 11-1.

8 days later, he did 10-11 on a 66/1 shot (although he wouldn't have had to weigh in, as he finished 10th).

Very interesting, particularly as the clerk of the scales reported he tried to do it deliberately.

As Somerset Sam mentions could be more to this then being reported.

Err Rico...
You sit, or stand, on the scales without holding the saddle
Simple, until the clerk of scales notices
