Some rich outfit who splash the cash hoping for a short cut to success. Usually ends one way… and its not success. Except for the sellers

Long time Bryan Smart supporter John Bond splashed some eyecatching amounts on juveniles for last season and so far it's not looking astutely spent to say the least.
He owns a filly called Go Big Or Go Home who is a half sister to Battaash and took 1,800,000 to secure as a yearling. She ran on two occasions for Smart last season - showing little, and has since been transferred to Paddy Twomey ( a trainer who Bond is now using increasingly having three juvenile fillies in training with him costing a million altogether) again showing nowt on her only run so far this season. There is a Mehmas filly named Lady Nunthorpe who cost 450,000 and has had six runs, failing to win and attaining a lowly handicap mark in the early 70's, and a Kingman colt called Bondy who also cost 450,000. He won a Ponty novice stakes on his second run last September but hasn't been seen since and holds no entries at present. Still retaining some faith in Smart he's a 280,000 Lope De Vega filly Miss Mendoza amongst the juveniles who has so far yet to make her debut. I realise the well bred fillies will have paddock value and all hope is not lost if they breed from them but it's still all bit crazy considering we are constantly having it hammered into us how futile it is to invest in UK racing given its uncertain well being at the moment. |

I think John Bond and his family have done pretty well. I think they can take a few not so good ones on the chin.

Good luck to them. A fool and his/her "easy" money is easily parted eg buyers of ready-to-race 2yr olds. I think a lot of money will need to be spent eg Sheikh Mo for a smidgeon of track success.
