Would deliberately not run a Horse if Harry Bentley was going to ride for one of his retained owners Sheik somebody or other....Then employs Bentley farther down the line as stable Jockey ffs.

i dont watch it ordinarily but did because they didnt have the bedford pox or lee d1ckhead on
the posh geezer from the post is ok as is beckett. how many other trainers speak as straight as heim? he admits he didnt want him rather than the usual flannel about not quite working out or difference of opinion like most other trianers do. those of you who complain about gravy trains boats and planes should appreciate it williams didnt sound too bad either. a rare endorsement from me |

Sadly, Beckett went the same way over an owner retaining a jockey (as opposed to a trainer) that 99% of trainers would have gone.
In my close-up experience of a number of stables, trainers are the worst of the racing professionals for thinking they know it all. That affliction sits with most racing professionals but trainers are generally the worst. Racing professionals really do seem to think they know the game better than any pesky 'outsiders' like owners, journalists and, god forbid, most of all punters. I firmly believe it is something handed down from the class system days when even jockeys were thought of rather rough and common people. Until UK racing completely rids itself of this kind of nonsense and takes on board the knowledge and ideas that 'outsiders' can bring, it will continue its downward spiral. I can back this view up with a first-hand observation of the way Terry Ramsden was treated by the racing 'elite' way back in 1987 after he sponsored the Solario Stakes at Sandown. They didn't mind taking his prize money but in the winner's enclosure they blanked him completely! OK, we have moved on a bit since then when a super-rich (soon not to be) but 'coommon lad' was treated like sh*t. That day has stuck with me all these years and I see far too many similar, if not quite as obvious, examples many times a year still. Becket's superior attitude (does he ever agree with anything, BTW) came over far too clearly yesterday. |
