Not been Salmon, but read that it's mainly OAPs there as they get cheap entry apparently.

I've been a few times in the last 6 or 7 years. They give concessions on the gate like all the Arc courses I think. But at the moment it looks as though you have to buy online due to the attendance being limited. Still it's only a tenner.

Well. That was a bit unfortunate.
The place is a mess. The car park which is marked for the Grandstand, which I therfore normally use, was closed apparently but it wasn't actually closed off and there were a number of cars there. Then I got into trouble for parking in the jockeys' area although again there was nothing to show it was reserved that I could see.
Then I found that there was only one food outlet and that had no obvious menu and it was also the outlet for beer sales. There were not enough people serving so the queue was turning back on itself. I had no intention of waiting in line with the boozers ( I don't drink during the day ) for half an hour on the off-chance they might have something I could eat (I'm a vegetarian ). Faced with an eight race card and the probability of nothing to eat and drink till I got home about 7.30 I called it a day after the first race.
My advice is not to bother till they have things fixed ( I believe the meeting in late July is the aim ).

What did you expect for a tenner?Laugh

Sounds dreadful, it all started to go downhill when they dug up the fibresand. I had some of my finest betting moments there.

As for being a vegetarian, have you suffered from it since birth?

More or less.
And yes I agree a tenner is decent. I suppose if a group of you go with a designated driver and you can get a table in the bar it might be an OK day out.

Salmon, I am an annual member there and have been since 2013. The flood has made a right mess but they did well to start racing again in November.

The only food outlet was poor yesterday but unless there is a tiny mid-winter crowd, it is mostly like that anyway because they struggle to find staff - so it will be interesting to see what it is like when all is fixed.

But, why did you not just wait for when an early race was being run to try to be served? That is the key when it is busy.

Yesterday, though, I have never seen so many owners and they were overflowing into the general area. With so many syndicates nowadays, a lot of owners often is the case.

Best time to go since the floods has been mid-week evenings on AW. Mostly quiet and plenty of space. The dinners at the bar you speak of are from the owners area and so there can be a wait even when it is quiet as owners are served first. You were unfortunate yesterday to hit on a day when so many owners were there but it is funny how jump racing is noticeably more popular at the track than the AW (not with me BTW, because I thought that was a poor NH card yesterday).

Thanks for the helpful comments, but I did wait to see if the queue got shorter and if anything it got longer. I do actually like Southwell and I don't remember having issues with food before, but I'm not going back till it's fixed and there are other food outlets.
