Ancient Wisdom (1) seems to be in pole position. If he wins it will be just rewards for trainer Charlie Appleby given his predicaments over Arabian Crown and Hidden Law. Hope no incessant deluge today.

Here we have a 12f classic and we're trusting to luck with the draw not to mention undulations and acting around bends , the excuse for a racecourse should be tarmacked and the race moved to a proper racecourse many years ago.

No horse has won the Derby from stall one since *checks notes* oh, 2021.

Hayden, that's the point. As a result of being run at our worst racecourse, the Derby tests a horse's ability to run uphill and down, and round bends and against a camber.

Agree regarding the track but as Ramruna states, the test is unique and why the race was once so prestigious, watered down as such since AOB devalued it.

Stall (1),won it twice in that time.Horse is good enough can win

The Deby draw is meaningless.
From 1967 (stalls introduced) to 2010 stall 10 won 8 times in 42 years (I am missing draw 1980; 1982) but in those 42 years 12 no-hopers came out of stall 10.
So "lucky stall 10" had 8 winners from 32 races or 26.7% success.

I wrote to the BHA (no reply) explaining with 10 horse stalls machines the horse in stall 10 is first to head for the rail on the right. and has a massive advantage.
Did they do the intelligent thing and buy a bigger stalls machine (York 20 runners; Longchamp 14 runners)?  No?

They moved their two stalls machines into the centre of the course 2011 onwards and filled with horses around the gap between the two machines.
But they do not even do that consistently.
Starting with 2011 (machine 1. machine 2): 6.7; 9; 6.6; 10.2; 7.5; 8.8; 9.9; 2.10; 10.3; 8.8; 10.1; 10.7; 10.4
It is hard to believe that the most important part of the greatest race is managed in that manner.

Nil is the correct answer.
The 10 horses from stalls machine 1 head to the right hand rail and cut off the smaller group (herd) coming out of stalls machine 2.
Horses are herd animals.  The small herd falls in behind the big herd.
