Report EastLower Gooner May 29, 2024 12:11 PM BST
I still think they should’ve take him stateside for a crack at the local ones…like the West Virginia Derby at Mountaineer…that’s a legit race imo

The Super Derby at Louisiana, the Lone Star Derby, the Indiana Derby on a turf. So much choice.

Knicks Go proved the body of work doesn’t matter. He won a Cornhusker and a Lukas Classic as his prep races for the Classic.

I never even heard of them races till he ran in them lol.

But Aidan really believes the horse needs a do over.

Horse was only 85 to 90% fit at Newmarket

They had that much faith in him that they still thought he could win, that’s how highly they rate him.

When it wasn’t happening he wasn’t knocked about

He’s got the best form rating by some way, he’s fit now

For me the question is will he stay 12 furlongs? No guarantee on his pedigree.

On all known form he’s the class horse.

In a competitive looking Oaks I like the look of Forest Fairy

All the best

Daira |Mile found 24lb when stepped up to a 10f first time out this year and looks like 12f might be better for him. Voyage by Golden Horn won easily first time out over 10f and I don't know any GH that doesn't improve for racing and distance. It may well be a good Derby this time tomorrow.

Very good horse but had a dream run throughout as the other jocks weaved all over the place. Wayne Lordan made sure that Havlin couldn't win by riding alongside the loose horse and pushing them all wide while Ryan strolled home. Best horse won but Havlin was fast asleep thinking he had them covered.

Don't underestimate the benefits of having 3 runners in the race and the other stable jockeys told exactly what to do to ensure that the favourite won if good enough. That is not meant to be a criticism of the winner but having your own pacemakers is always worth 7lb.

No Derby horse is 100% fit on Guineas day. Mill Reef was 75% and Nijinsky 80%. Nijinsky won and Mill Reef would have still won too but for the freak opposition that day. On Derby Day both were 100% fit. Read their books if you don`t believe me. Aidan O`Brien is easily one of the greatest trainers ever.

Elisjohn, so you wouldn`t say that Nijinsky, Mill Reef and the Brigadier were not superstars and their careers shattered because they didn`t go through their careers unbeaten?

Mill Reef won the Derby, Eclipse, King George and Arc in the same season and that amazing feat will never ever be repeated imo. Only been done the once in Turf history.

The way City Of Troy won today, I think he will prove a true Turf great and I very much doubt that he will be beat again. Horses are not machines and even the greatest, like the 3 mentioned above, can have an off day.

Not sure how anyone can start using words like 'great' about that race winner - the race was bang average for the supposed level. Even having stupid loose horses added into the mix, horses running all over the place stupidly (jockeys all over shop) on a flat race...

If it wins another 12 group ones then maybe start going on about 'great'.

The second's a nice horse and would have won comfortably but for the exceptional City of Troy...  Really wouldn't be blaming Havlin.. (bit harsh) imo.
Report impossible123 June 2, 2024 4:37 PM BST
I thought City Of Troy was running on and pulling away from Ambiente Friendly at the end. Moore had difficulty pulling him up.

A rematch regardless of jockey the result will still be the same at any distance from 8f up.
Report themightymac June 2, 2024 6:07 PM BST
The best horse by a mile won the Derby. Next time they meet, you can put any jockey in the world on Ambience Friendly and it will be beat even worse. 2nd is a very good horse but City Of Troy is a champion and simply different class.

Rab rode a great race and would have won most derbies. Yes, he was blindsided and probably didn`t spot Moore until he was past but it would never have won anyway. You all lost your dough. Get over it.

It may well be true that the winner is far ahead but nobody knew that when Havlin was sitting motionless 3 down on a proven stayer against a speed horse who had 3 lengths to make up. Then he allowed the third to box him in behind the loose horse for 100 vital yards. It was not a good ride how ever you cut it.

Sadly not in the Derby but I did have a decent bet on Relentless Voyager. He got a dream run round so could get hit hard by the handicapper going forward. I am still having a bit on most Balding runners and he is showing a profit for the year which is good going for a big yard.

Only beaten once and obviously there were excuses for the defeat. The second today is a Group 1 Winner and got within 3/4 length of Ace Impact in France. So not bad form lads. Hasn't had his ground all year and if you thought that he looked like he was going to get beat today please look at the race again.
Report impossible123 July 6, 2024 8:48 PM BST
But for the substandard opposition he'd have been withdrawn. There is no outstanding senior horse that has delivered so far this season eg Emily Upjohn, Inspiral, etc; Passenger injured; White Birch (equine anemia). I think the Juddmonte against older horses from abroad could indicate the true level of potential.

TMB, spot on.
Report impossible123 July 6, 2024 9:03 PM BST
He was receiving 10lbs from the runner-up; the runner-up was beaten cosily by Ace Impact (a 12f horse) which raced from the rear; the runner-up has not won this season on any ground.

I just do not think he's as good as connections have us believed.
Report Try My Best July 6, 2024 9:27 PM BST
Well Ace Impact won 5 races at a mile and a quarter and 1 at 1m 4f so not sure what that comment is all about. By the way it's called weight for age and has been going on sometime now.
Report DonegalPrince July 7, 2024 12:06 AM BST
Ace Impact will be regarded, in due course, as one of the best winners of the Arc. I am with TMB here. I repeat, see this horse on fast ground then we can judge. Imho he has won despite the ground. He is not great. But he could be.
