My favourite in the event was Billy Konchellah who won two World Championships, but his reputation was completely tarnished by his subsequent criminal record.

like asking what would 123 have been in a 3m chase from horses from last 30 yrs..impossible to quantify.

the obvious winner in rudisha since he's ran the quickest time.

"After the Olympics, Ereng returned home to Kenya to a hero's welcome, the highlight of which was receiving, in a time-honoured tradition, his gold medal was once more presented to him during evening assembly at his former school, Starehe, by the late Dr. Geoffrey William Griffin." Shocked

Peter Elliot was pretty good at 800m and Cram had his moments, I know many of the names of the 80s but could not name 1 single 800m runner from last 20 years.  Athletics has shown Horse Racing what a real decline looks like.

You might have an argument for Moscow but NOT LA Joaquim Cruz didn't have longevity but was clear Top Dog in 84.
