new clerk Dan Cooper admits the decision to put 5mm of water on Tuesday on good to firm ground looks "Questinable" after amber/yellow weather warnings meant heavy rain hit the course on Wednesday.

Dan clearly an ex pupil of kirkland.Cry

ash...he completely ruined the ground at exeter during his tenure there by overwatering in dry periods
winter of 2021/22 onwards in particular its been the worst surface of any jockey club track
Report wondersobright May 22, 2024 3:20 PM BST
even when he's called it g/f its only been g/f in his head because it was mostly time-based good ground
12/10/23, 18/10/22, 7/10/21 etc

and what he thinks is g/s is actually soft

if in doubt, water, and if not in doubt, water also

a complete buffoon

Why do they water for flat meetings exactly......isn't flat racing meant to be run on good to firm ground..???

Just what I was thinking, Hard luck if you own a horse waiting for Good ground. Cry

... I thought the same Ash, fair play to him for speaking to Olly, but it still begs the question why water when rain is forecast ??  Not sure where the declaration process came into the argument apart from deflecting away from the original point.

Pretty simple human explanation, there's far more jeopardy in the going being perceived to be too firm than too soft. Jeopardy with the people that they get remunerated by.

Tues - Cooper takes flak on twitter for watering in face of possibility/likelihood of substantial rain

Weds - James Stevens piece, which seems to have been removed or updated, Cooper fretting about Saturday's card possibly being abandoned, but which managed not to mention the fact that Cooper watered (watering mentioned in Wed Daily Mirror piece which is still up)

Thurs- 8am going stick report of 6.2 in time for Saturday's declarations

Fri- still 6.2  (soft, heavy in places) while Bath is 5.9 (Good/good to soft in places) Crazy.

Sat 6.3

Trainers clearly not trusting the Going description of Good To Firm, with 22 non runners all due to the Going.Grin

I presume this time it's like a road, since there's no reference to 'watered'.
Report sparrow June 7, 2024 1:16 PM BST
Not to worry as we can rely on Bath for the good to firm ground as ever.
Report Hushwing. June 7, 2024 5:45 PM BST
you can't blame the trainers either , they just presumed the 'good to firm' would ride on the soft side like usual .

years of misinformation caused this
