Confirmed

Presumably there is something in it (that Callum Shepherd will be replaced) or why would James Fanshawe say this:
He told Sunracing: “The ride is yet to be confirmed. I don’t really want to go down this route, Mr Gredley is your man for that.” |

Understandable, what with all those Derby winners Havlin has ridden

@KwiffOfficial · 30m Connections of Ambiente Friendly have replaced Callum Shepherd with Robert Havlin for The Derby next week at Epsom, opting for a 'more experienced rider', despite Shepherd having a 17% Strike-Rate at the track v Havlin's 6%. lol |

Owners thinking they know best again.......

Regardless of what others think,Havlin's a solid jockey in my book.
Saying that Shepherd's done nothing wrong on the horse, also thought he was the No1 rider for the owners?. Owners pay the bills I suppose. |
|
By:
I mean Havlin it.

That’s a strange move. Not the biggest shock in the world that Shepherd has been jocked off, but for Havlin?! That must hurt.
Feel really sorry for Callum Shepherd. He was on Sunday Series on itv being interviewed and seemed to be really excited and looking forward to the ride, that must be hard to take. |

Obviously young Shephard was not sucking Gredley's d1ck hard enough.....What a **** of a Man.

By:
Someone on twatter suggesting that the defeat on the well backed Too Friendly at Newmarket the other day might have influenced the decision.
He did have to wait for a clear run but it seemed to me that the Johnston winner had a bit in hand at the finish. |

Flatstats Epsom stats 20 years

Interesting data, Mr C, the figures never lie, as Willo used to like to say.
It's probably not a bad call that about the Too friendly defeat, cuz I'm not sure anyone was expecting Shepherd to lose the ride, and 100-30 into 9-4 close to the off, sounds like there might have been a few burnt fingers. |
|
By:
The Gredleys removed a Royal Ascot winner from Michael Bell last year and sent it to James Owen, even if it was for a hurdling campaign.
So perhaps not surprisingly Mr Fanshawe not too keen on saying anything about the jockey change! |

By:
for a 50yo havlin is ok imo although epsom stats are poor as has been pointed out
sickening for callum this, not happy ![]() |
|
By:
Wouldn’t have either of them in the top 20 jockeys riding today, though if the choice was Sherpherd or Havlin, I’d probably go for Shepherd. In this case, if the choice was Shepherd who won the trial on the horse lto, or Havlin who had never even sat on the horse, I’d definitely go for Shepherd.
No surprise to see him jocked off, and was kind of half expecting it. Though after watching his interview on Sunday, I assumed that he had been assured that it was his ride. Being jocked off must be a sickener, being jocked off for a 50 year old rab Havlin must make you want to consider giving up. |
|
By:
Callum Shepherd has a 25% strike rate at Epsom over the last 5 years, the same strike rate as Will Buick and better than Oisin ,
with a £24.75 profit to LEVEL STAKE. 7 winners from 28 rides. Can't find Havlin on the list. |
|
By:
Bring George out of retirement then for it
|
|

Interestingly, Too Friendly had been backed late from 8-1 to 9-2 for the Chester Cup when de Sousa rode it, evidently someone thought it was a well handicapped horse.

I wonder if Mr Gredley would refund my antepost bet on Ambiente Friendly.
What a farce The Epsom Derby has turned into? COT bombed in his last race, yet 2/1 fav; 2nd fav Ambiente Friendly is now being ridden by a jockey who froze on the Oaks fav Mehdaayih in 2019. Where is Johnny Murtagh? He's 10 days to shed off some weight and get fitter. |
|
By:
God knows I'm no Havlin fan but people comparing winning percentages at Epsom don't seem to realise the point the owner is making re experience. He's referring to experience in a big race, not how many times they've ridden winners at the track itself.
|
|
By:
I very much doubt Mr.Gredley will be refunding you, impossible123. Though if you are that concerned, you could always lay off on here?
It’s basically like for like imo. I don’t think this increases or decreases the horses chance. Havlin has more experience, Shepherd knows the horse better, could make a case for either. That’s why I feel so sorry for him, if Buick or Moore became available, or Dettori announced he was flying back, you could understand it. But being jocked off for someone of equal ability at best must be hard to take. |
|
By:
I'd understand if it was Buick, Dettori, Doyle, Marquand or De Sousa; Mr Havlin clearly panicked on Mehdaayih in the 2019 Oaks.
|
|
By:
Obviously young Shephard was not sucking Gredley's d1ck hard enough.....What a **** of a Man. -- Wow, I think you need to have a cup of tea Acey and calm down a little bit. These owners put a lot of money into the sport and havw every right to chose their jockey.
|
|
By:
I’m still a bit bitter about his ride in the 2019 oaks too tbf
|
|
By:
A good jockey is more likely to win a race on a good horse consistently. However, a not-so-good jockey is less likely to win a similar race on a good horse. Similarly, a good trainer can get the most potential out of a horse; a not-so-good trainer cannot.
The above is the plain truth between good and not-so-good. |
|
By:
True Impossible. But owners have lots of reasons for using jockeys and sometimes it isn't because they are the best.
