Chris Cook: "Excuses abound for Lockinge flops - but how much should we trust them next time?"; "Favourite backers take another soaking as Longchamp follows Newmarket in providing Classic shocks"; "Is the Grand National becoming predictable after consecutive favourites win for 1st time in 130 years?"

These were the gems from Chris Cook in The Racing Post just recently. No doubt more of the same on Epsom Derby next weekend.

If the odds just gave an accurate chance of a horse winning, there would be no betting, or racing.

A while back I thought of something…when is the last time you read, saw or heard the news and it wasn’t one group angry and kicking off about something.

Seems like everyday for the past 5 years has been like this.

So much hate, anger and fear everyday 24/7.

Chris exemplifies this here by highlighting favourites being overturned and then at the same time upset because we’ve had back to back favs winning the Grand National.

This shame no win arguing goes on about more important real world topics. It’s a circular reference of hate.

I mean why not just write a beautiful article on Cheverly Park and the brilliant tactics from the jockey or maybe a piece comparing Auteil’s big jumps day to over here.

Instead he got to find some ol sh*te to complain about.

At this point whether someone complains I just say -ah well I get it sucks to be you.

I take it you never watch the racing channels? It's wall to wall cheerleading, pretending there are no negatives. In my opinion totally dishonest.

What's the point coming on here and just copying what the channels are already saying? I would say none.

As for Cook I am sure if you looked at his articles over a period of time they would be far more on the cheerleading side.

TBF there's a happy medium between moaning and cheerleading - the kind of coverage most other sports get e.g. football, tennis, cricket - they will cheerlead to some extent and be happy to be critical when needed.

Racing never manages that though in terms of mainstream coverage which is about how lovely everyone is. While moaning articles about not being able to have the right horses winning are just too banal also.
