Because the prices did exist when Sir Tom stuck his not very lucky pin in the racecard. It serves as a marker of Pricewise's skill, not its usefulness.

Mind you, Pricewise is no longer the great market-mover of old. It would be more of a complaint about Hugh Taylor who can halve prices in a class 6 handicap on the all-weather where only the stable groom's mum had so much as glanced at the card until Sir Hugh intervened.
