…with as much ability as City Of Troy”. Why oh why does the RP continue to print such garbage headlines about this stable.Absolute rhetoric.Didn’t look that way in the Guineas. The man is a charlatan.

Just drivel coming out of his mouth at this point.
Why not just let horse get on the track and do his thing, expecting COT to het injured and not race again in the coming weeks.

The 16.1 pony will then retire as the best that never was

I mentioned this on the Henry Longfellow thread. Didn't think it deserved a separate thread.

What's to be gained by saying that? Who's he trying to convince?

Of course none of the media will call it out as being crackpot stuff. He's made a career out of this kind of statement, but in this case it just seems like overkill.

Two words: Auguste Rodin.

Yes the hype around City of Troy is ludicrous, but we've seen this sketch before, just last year in fact when Auguste Rodin was hyped as a future triple crown winner, but fell out the back of the telly in the 2,000 Guineas before winning the Derby, the Irish Derby and Breeders Cup Turf.

Auguste Rodin lost on debut when he should have won, and has since bombed three times. Anything other than reliable. He did have some excuse in the Guineas, whereas City Of Troy had no excuse other than O'Brien suggesting he molly coddled him.

its a question of value ..lets weigh up the pros and cons

pro ...4/1 before the gns run  would look big

trainer brought auguste back to win the derby of back of gns dissapointment

       good 2 yo form
trainer still keeping faith.

cons ..francesca said he looks narrow and small b4 gns

       has he trained on ?

showed plenty of speed not proven beyond 7f

youd have to forgive a dissapointing gns run

If what the trainer says is true, and all the previous he has of using the guineas as a prep run, why is he not evens?

"O'Brien said: "We very happy with Ylang Ylang's run in the Guineas. We thought going there that she was more of an Oaks filly and that's how she ran. Ryan was very happy with her. He let her find her feet and he felt that she was coming home very well." - Unbelievable! So that outfit didn't have a 1000 guineas horse - again just use the 1000 guineas as a prep. Well I guess that's why there on another level, who the feck knows what they are up to. :)

Never ceases to amaze me how many people listen to these trainers.

Most of them are not worth listening to but Aiden most definitely is.

Why is it that these horses that come into a big race like this and are hyped up so much either win or totally blow out altogether, they are never beaten a length are they.Confused

The market reflected the chance of Ylang Ylang in the 1000G. As for the Derby I'm expecting another implosion the equivalent to that of an atomic bomb. Hope I'm wrong...pocket-talking.

More than any other trainers O'Brien is always thinking of the value of the horse which is not unreasonable given that  the owners are paying the bills.

Most of his interviews seem to revolve around him trying to remember every tom, dick and harry who has anything to do with the horses. Lovely for those involved, but not a blind bit of use to anyone else.
