Reported 3000 drop on last year. I was in the Earl of Derby to my eye it was way more than that backed up by walking around in comfort. Nowhere near Ladies present this year.

£80 a ticket ....... Come Racing. .....  When will they learn. ?
Report Kriskin April 14, 2024 10:32 AM BST
The price to get in to a race meeting in general is a rip off.  Plus the price of food & beverages in embarrassing.  I only go to meetings nowadays when I get in free with my Racing TV freebies.
Report sparrow April 14, 2024 10:47 AM BST
£80 really?  Absolutely ridiculous.
Report jimnast April 14, 2024 11:52 AM BST
Already forgotten what it was to get in Thursday but it was nothing like 80 quid .,for that you got a racecourse with facilities right up there with the best and a top class days racing.
Report jimnast April 14, 2024 11:54 AM BST
The real rip off at aintree is the embankment £40 to stand on some grass and see horse run past you twice.
Report Brian April 14, 2024 12:04 PM BST
I wouldn't pay £80 to go racing these days but I'd rather pay £80 and be able to walk around in comfort than £50 to be in a packed enclosure.
Report GLASGOWCALLING April 14, 2024 12:10 PM BST
Regards the €80 it was Saturday owning on the itv raving show and someone from Aintree was asked about the admission, he waffled on about comparing the venue to any other major sporting occasions.!

remember POLLARDSTOWN running that day, never been since, Laugh, great days
Report MythWA April 14, 2024 12:23 PM BST
I paid £85 on the Thurs and £135 on Fri.
I have attended for the last 5 years or maybe more.
Thats in the Earl of Derby for that you get a reserved seat and access to bars that in previous years were been a nightmare absolutely packed.
This year not so.
The upper bar is under a canvas roof and beyond cold when the weather is poor.
Had to smile when I noted a bottle of still water was £3.50 in one place on the course.
In previous years they have got away with it but not this year. Reporting only a 3k drop is fanciful.
Report 1st time poster April 14, 2024 12:25 PM BST
great days as in everything off the cuff, nothing pre booked some wag in the pub said how do you fancy this, and off we went
had no time for man utd or southampton but remember been in pub fri night and someone said lets pack a bag and hitchike to wembley and off we went, never got in but it was the yr utd fans managed to tunnel under  the fence so we had a good go but failed but enjoyed the atmosphere etc, etc, did similar for scot v eng game at hampden not so good got a kicking outside hampden in the rain LaughLaugh

1st time poster how’s this for coincidence my first national was Ben Nevis and my first cup final was 76 united and Southampton, can’t remember the cost of aintree but do remember the cup final ticket cost £2.50.
Report 1st time poster April 14, 2024 2:06 PM BST
£2.50 sounds ok, i got watch 90 mins of fighting in the car parks ,we,re from boro blagged a lift back as far as leeds area in a box van,
i was once sat in the house when england were plaing spain in that 82 2nd round knockout stage of world cup and night before my mate said do you fancy it got some seats to madrid booked but no match tkts ,jumped at it watched in a pub near berabeau keegan/brooking came on as subs and keegan missed a sitter and we were out, stayed a few days on pish before coming home LaughLaugh
Report jimnast April 14, 2024 2:20 PM BST
The odd thing about the 82 World Cup is the 2nd round was done on a round robin basis it was west Germany Spain and England

Regarding the Ben Nevis national i was only talking about it yesterday it seems unbelievable now but the public were encouraged to walk the course in the morning of the race in those days and many did,we obviously went to beeches brook like everyone else and bumped into Alan minter who was happy to give us his time came over as a really decent lad.

£60 on the County Roof on Thursday Jimnast. I very much doubt if there is a better value racing badge in the entire year than that.
Report 1st time poster April 14, 2024 2:25 PM BST
yeh i think spain must have beat germany ,and the germans although beat rumminigie or some scored from 30 yds in injury time/last min ,remember all the comms.england fans saying it was rumminiges best goal for england,

It’s time poster just looked up the round robin fixtures from 82 England drew both there games 0 0 but west Germany beat Spain 2 1 so qualified.

In the group stages Italy failed to win a single game against Poland,Peru and Cameroon yet went on to win the World Cup.

Went Thursday ,have done for 20 years, entrance seemed dearer 31 quid, always seemed around 20ish quid.

But pints were 7.50,which was 10p more than chelt,7.40.

They were usually cheaper than chelt.

Given they make 6 quid a pint, seems daft charging 31,get more in would surely be more profitable.

They could do a 25quid price with proof of a Merseyside address.or the Doncaster free pint and a pie with entrance fee.

Once attendance drops, then like all supply and demand, adjust to suit,or dig in believe, let’s max out on those that come.but is this a downward spiral.

This guff about comparing Racecourse entry to a visit to the Theatre or a Premier league match is so disingenuous.Everyone knows how enmeshed gambling is with going racing and would factor in a punting kitty as an essential part of the day out, something which doesn't apply to the other two examples.
Report comingupthehill April 14, 2024 6:47 PM BST
Isleham. 7 races x 4 mins is 28 mins of sport ,not 90 mins, plus a captive audience who spends money in between.the footy and theatre has a 15 min spend break.racing has 6 x 25 mins spend breaks.

Enjoyed going on Thursday - can walk down as far as the third last which is not possible on such as Becher's day. Refrained from purchasing any food, helped by stuffing myself with a smelly Fray Bentos pie just before the leaving house which unfortunately made me thirsty enough to succumb to 2 x7.50 pints inside. Quality card no doubt helped by the longer than usual gap from Cheltenham but I still much preferred it when you got 4,000 in on the Thursday and 6,000 on the Friday.

Nobody needed to pay £3.50 for Water it was free to everyone all 3 days ,all bar areas had it,it was in a small box I’m guessing 1/2 pint.
Report barstool April 15, 2024 11:54 AM BST
£15 both days at Cheltenham this week.

It can be done at a reasonable price.

Free parking as well.

Report comingupthehill April 15, 2024 4:35 PM BST
What’s happened this year,
Every year they increase cost, not really affecting attendance,so max out the profit.but they ve over done it and lost out.

Supply and demand, trouble is,dropping a couple of quid might not reverse it,so then they look to milk those who do bother.which will compound the decline.

They just need clever pricing, clever marketing,

Why try and get an extra fiver on admittance, when they make that on 1 pint.

Sell it cheap, pile it high .
