Not since terrorists discovered knives. Buying guns is hard. Making bombs is even harder. But anyone can grab a kitchen knife on their way out of the house.

It's not inconceivable every shop in the mall could be issued with a standard defence kit to try and obstruct a similar attacker in the future. This makes good sense to me.

In England anyway, in recent memory almost all of these style indiscriminate mass killings have been carried out by people acting in the name of Muslim/Islam. How far does your recent memory stretch back, CG? Mine does not go to 1979. I believe that is called desperate reaching, but apologists are never too far away. You'd have been better off going with the IRA attacks if you're going back decades to find anything remotely close. |

What are you gibbering on about. leif mentioned the 60's in his whataboutery, I was countering that as not relevant to what is happening in current times. I was born in the 70s and no I'm not familiar with the mass killing of kids that you've referenced. Nobody could reasonably argue they are in recent memory. I know pretty much nothing about the Sydney attack of last night, I was simply picking up on something leif wrote on the thread. I could not tell you if the perp was a white christian or an asian muslim. The odds are though that he was likely to be in the second demo, given the apparent MO. I'm sure it will come out. |

'acey', would you not have done something similar if you're in his shoes? The attacker only had a knife (not a machete), and alone. I'd have secured any form of defensive objects eg fire extinguisher, bottle, metal poles, mannequins, flower pots, etc, to obstruct his path hopefully with backers behind me.

Nobody knows how they would act in such an emergency/panic. Fight or flight. I once had someone swallow a razor blade in front of me. You cannot deal with a person who has zero care about what harm they will suffer very easily. And adrenalin gives people abnormal capabilities.
