Looking forward to Aintree's first 4m hurdle tomorrow.

Spruce flying off if a horse sneezes. 10 years time it will be a Flat race.

over 3 miles run at portman park, jumping 3 fences
|

Its about time they scrapped the race all it does for once a year is give the anti racing brigade a voice on the mainstream media, even this morning on a tv some uniformed bird was claiming there was 4 deaths last year, its not worth the bother.

Maybe this is the only way it survives.

If Red Rum was running in this era, he wouldn`t have finished in the first 3.

Don't know why any horse racing fan is disappointed there are not more fallers.
|
By:
Dont want more fallers, the race is as safe as they can make it but is it worth it when it is no different to any othe steeplechase but attracts the anti racing mob and negative news items every year.

I agree mac. Even more this year it I thought it stuck out just how much they have decimated the features of the fences and the character of the race .
Still, we at least still have a spectacle of sorts. There was a real threat, -pre-Red Rum years, that the course would be lost to developers. At least that didn't happen. At a tangent, I have real doubts about the sense of shortening the run to the first fence. Who makes these decisions and do they ever consult trainers, jockeys and those actively involved in the racing for their views and insights? Hail to Sandy Thomson who does not at all shirk calling out these protesters who caused so many fallers and deaths last year. |
By:
And how are they going to efficiently fit in 34 horses between these two fence gates at the start. It is such a narrow strip to house/accommodate/ gather so many animals.
|
By:
No Fallers at the Brook , has this ever happened before ?
|
By:
So now in the national they can go round in a bunch then the favourite sprints clear after the last. It’s a joke of a race nowadays and only those paid to ramp it up are getting excited.

Its Gone , The Grand National only in Name
|
By:
My lays would have been good case.
|
By:
agree with previous poster, it really did look like a race from portman park,
|
By:
Yep. The Grand National is dead. Long live the much-tampered with, reduced, diluted, disfigured and emasculated National.
|
By:
4 unseated riders , Not a Faller
|
By:
what youre on about, according to mccoy , fits and ed , this is what the national should be with 30 or so runners all with a chance coming over 2 out
