And yes I know the TOTE " guarantee " SP now but surely this isnt being run as a " genuine " TOTE.

its as far from a genuine pmu as you can get GC...totally **** pun intended

..... 4/1 winner just paid exactly £5 ... Someones having a Giraffe.?

Can't see the conspiracy here. Seems clear the tote prices are coming in below SP and being elevated to match the SP under the guarantee promo.
Tote take 19.25% out of the win pool so on average you would expect Tote prices to be a little lower than SP. Plus there's not been many higher-price winners which is where tote payout is usually higher. |

yes jammy. well spotted
if you are an sp backer, may as well use the nanny |

contrast with 20 years ago today 29/3/04...
lingfield winners 20/1 (£25.20) 25/1 (£38.30) 10/1 (£13) 14/1 (£16.30) 4/6 (£1.70) 3/1 (£4.10) newky 10/1 (£8) 10/1 (£8.70) 9/2 (£5.10) 25/1 (£23.40) 10/11 (£1.80) 9/2 (£5.80) wolver 8/1 (£8.50) 11/8 (£1.60) 8/1 (£11.20) 8/1 (£10.80) 7/2 (£5.20) 10/1 (£10.10) 10 winners over SP, 8 under |
By:
nowadays by returning under SP 99% of the time & then adjusting to provide the SP return, its a pmu brand not operating as a legitimate pmu
By:
8/1 winner just payed ????? Yep exactly £9, God we should all be eternally grateful to our " guardians " of the Tote.
Jamee they arent " guaranteeing " prices for the benefit of Joe Public. |
By:
Thanks Wonders, I was going to google for some old TOTE returns.
By:
By:
...and 'the one' was better, right? So win or draw basically but no lose
By:
Jamee, maybe you can help then, why the need to " guarantee " any returns ?? Surely this has defeated the purpose of a genuine TOTE when you would often get far better payouts especially on outsiders.
By:
Feck af berk
By:
No Lose berksy but that isnt the ethos behind the TOTE, what has happened to all the bigger payouts what Wonders has displayed ??
By:
By:
No idea, but most likely just a marketing ploy to try and drive volume. Perhaps they figured they'd make more money with a higher take-out plus SP match guarantee?
By:
No lose. My a££. Better prices from the blind black market bookie in the bar
By:
By:
Did it the wrong way. 7% impact, not 40%. Example:
£1000 pool with £50 winning @ 13.50% takeout pays £17.30 £1000 pool with £50 winning @ 19.25% takeout pays £16.15 |
By:
So folk now betting into a TOTE win pool need to forget the old methods of picking a small stable with an obscure jockey hoping for a big payout as it is all computer driven on percentages, oh and shareholders bonuses.
By:
* Bonuses.

Stinking prices. Except the 1/20
By:
Omg434 a 10)3
By:
And again. 434 on a 10)3. Absolutely stinking
By:
I don't see why this is shocking. Presumably the Tote payoff would have fallen below 4.34 and so was rounded up to 4.34 to match SP as part of the 'SP guarantee' promo.
By:
You should be complaining about the shocking 19.25% take out. There's no point complaining about the SP Guarantee offer, all that does is recover a little bit of value for the punter.
By:
Jamee they are rounding all the runners up, when was the last time anyone saw a decent ABOVE sp payout ?? These were frequent in the past as Wonders stated.
By:
With 19.25% take-out it's not a surprise that they have to round lots of markets up.
The higher the take-out the more markets they will have to round up. The win pool take-out 20 years ago was 13.5%. The win pool take-out today is 19.25%. |
