River too "dirty" so another tradition lost to the PC lot

I thought that the river was much more polluted in the past.

I love the boat race. I've had the forecast up twice in the past ten years.

on a more serious note the amount we are paying  on our bills for something that drops out of the sky youd think they would be doing more to stop raw sewage pouring into our rivers ,yes it was much worse in the 60s and 70s ,as a kid i grew up in south east london and often played and swum in the thames oblivious of the dangers (when you are young you dont give a shyte anyway ) often see big dead bloated rats floating in the water plus all manner of toilet waste ,the rivers are cleaner now but still all manner of shyte gets pumped into the systems by big companys and the water companys themselves . a former pop star is raising concerns but he needs more backing by the public , all about money at the end of the day .

I'm surprised the Americans haven't bombed the Oxford reserve boat yet.

So I’ve been paying for them to take care of the sewage on my bill and they basically fly tipping lol

Too many people, more people more sewage, more crime, more pressure on services,  etc etc,

Gooner doesn't sound good does it risk or disease or contaminants remember that stuff with the North sea discharges you don't want to be swimming get a turd in the smacker it is disgusting fine them large make them pay or nationalise.

With bottled water sales through the roof down there added to the potential of a 40% bill increase it seems anyone having a bad day on the gambling front and contemplating the journey to Beachy Head , diving in the Thames seems a decent alternative.

Pretrty much sums up the event when the main talking point is not throwing the cox in the water.

not just the thames hayden but many of our rivers , i read somewhere a way back that the govenments way of tackling the situation was to give the big water companys a time line to clean up their acts ! ....they gave em something like 55 years  or something like that  iirc to get off their arshes ,so looks like no cox dipped for the forseeable !

with the number of bodies the thames hasd given up in last few months be more worried about catching a crab in some fella,s braces

as with everything it boils down to money in the end ,any excuse to dump shyte and whatever into the river system ,not saying they are doing nothing but the ecoli and god knows what found by tests in the thames for one tells us its not enough and  they talking about  putting  40/% on water bills .

in bygone days the best thing about the baot race was new it was also fa cup semi final day or grand national day

Agree with all that Foyles , they've been very heavily fined twice but now skint so doomed for the foreseeable as you say and customers about to pay the price.

thing is if no one highlights it (fergal sharkey for one) they will keep emptying shyte into the rivers  not just the water companys but this  type of shyte goes in in almost every industry untill someone exposes em , like the post office scandal ,vennells and co must be cursing that tv series mr bates .

many will think its  no concern of mine, out of sight out of mind why should it bother me ! but each and everyone of us pays to have this crap dumped in our waterways and will be paying at least 40% more for the privilige in future!
