Always leave bedside clock/radio unchanged from summertime , it just helps the brain to keep working . It can have a rest after this w/e .

At what time does the clock go forward by an hour?

If the clocks went back to one minute to eight ie 1959, the world would be a much better place.

impossible123...I didn't realise that in March it's 1am to go forward but October it's 2am to go back an hour.

The clock changes are a human invention. The sun keeps its annual cycle and I run my life by that when I can. I have been waking up a minute or 2 earlier each morning for a month now so the clock change will be no hardship.

that can't be right - if you "fall back", you will likely bang your head and injure yourself! Falling forward is far safer,

that why i said "lean back", its alot safer than "fall back"

When I was about 14 my mother explained to me that during the war years they had double summertime. She was right but she went on to explain that it was so the farmers could have more daylight. I tried to explain, but she insisted that she was right because farmers were haymaking at 11pm.

rico, there are still many people who think that moving the clocks forward will create an extra hour of daylight! The sun and the earth move in a way that creates a variable day length and no mucking about with clocks will change that. Just get up when you wake (when the sun rises in my case) and sleep when you are tired. Never used an alarm clock unless I need be up at the middle of the night.

blackbarn, that illustrates my point. So many people are slaves to clocks when they should watch the sun instead.

I recall an experiment in the 1960s where the clocks were left alone and there was a deluge of complaints mostly about children having to go to school in the dark.

The BST experiment
In the 1960s, the Government decided to test the support for continuous summertime. A three
year experiment was introduced from 1968-1971 when summertime (GMT+1) applied
throughout the year. This was given the name British Standard Time (BST).
The Government gave an undertaking that a comprehensive review would be carried out
before any decision was taken at the end of the BST experiment. The White Paper which
followed in 1970 (Cmnd 4512, Review of British Standard Time) pointed out that it was
impossible to quantify advantages and disadvantages and that a final decision would need to
rest largely on a qualitative decision.
The issue was debated in the Commons on 2 December 1970 and by a vote of 366 to 81 the
British Standard Time experiment was discontinued. It has since been alleged by groups in
favour of change that the outcome of this vote was affected by powerful lobbying by farmers,
the building industry and the Scots, who had overwhelmed a "silent majority". It has also
been alleged that this lobbying was helped by the Press, who had produced on their front
pages "lurid photographs of a few children injured on the way to school in the dark"

It is laughable. Farmers (I was one) can start and finish at any time they like! If I wanted to go racing, I would start early enough to get essential work done first and work again when I got back. The UK Stock Market used to start at 9.00 but when they started trading EU stocks they moved it to 8.00 to coincide with the other EU countries starting at 9.00. Not rocket science. Schools now start at different hours to avoid the rush hour etc. No business HAS to conform to 9-5 or any other time period.
