Cameron Iles rides horse into to 3rd looks behind sees nothing else going and instantly pulls it up.

I’m trying to think why he looked behind with 2 to jump after pushing for 2 furlongs to pull up?

Very strange look back to see others pulling up he just went past to them stop.

Not wanting 3rd ?

Saw it and clocked it too - very bad. Too obvious methinks that one. Was money for places still and 0 challenges, could just hop over last two easy and walk in.
Report doorman99 March 25, 2024 3:32 PM GMT
Lol, posted same time, idiot.
Report stu March 25, 2024 3:34 PM GMT
'Idiot' might be being a bit kind IMO.
Report stewarts rise March 25, 2024 3:37 PM GMT
Perhaps he thought it was in the horses best interests to pull up after pushing for so long, and being hard ridden, had no chance of catching other two. What would you say if the kn@ckered horse had came to grief and got badly injured and put down. Some times the horses welfare comes before the betting public imo.
Report stu March 25, 2024 3:44 PM GMT
Crazy thing was it was jogging along fine, and he pulled it up for no reason at all, after looking around.
Report stu March 25, 2024 3:45 PM GMT
and could have walked over the line, same as walking back to the paddocks basically. If thats 'cruel' Laugh
Report stewarts rise March 25, 2024 3:54 PM GMT
He'd been riding it hard from a long way out to try to keep in contention, do you really think he would have done that if he didn't want to get placed?
I'm old enough to remember Charlotte Brew desperate attempts to be the first woman rider to complete the GN course, flogging her kn@ckered horse in the hope of getting around, fell 2 out i think and was killed. Angahard Rees finally became first woman to do it but killed her horse in the process just after it passed the line.
Owners don't want their horses to win the paltry place money at the risk of their horse imo.
Report in hell March 25, 2024 3:57 PM GMT
Horse looked legless I thought and for a grand, he probably thought it wasn't worth jumping the last few up the straight and still had a fair way to go
Report stu March 25, 2024 4:01 PM GMT
lol at comparing a couple of hurdles to walk over to the Grand National Laugh
Report stewarts rise March 25, 2024 4:04 PM GMT
Glad you find it funny, horses get killed jumping hurdles you know.
Report penzance March 25, 2024 4:06 PM GMT
Out on his feet.
Report stu March 25, 2024 4:07 PM GMT
Oh shut up stewarts, I was laughing at your stupid comparison between the GN and walking over a couple of hurdles, if people were so sensitive they should avoid all racing (guess you do then??), there are far worse slogs up a home straight than walking over the line there. Of course. Cry
Report doorman99 March 25, 2024 4:09 PM GMT
He wasn't though, that is the argument, he was actually plodding on for his aggressive riding. Really hacked off, 2nd one of these in a week.
Report stu March 25, 2024 4:12 PM GMT
Exactly right doorman, and jockey could have slowed with no pressure on the horse to canter home...
Report penzance March 25, 2024 4:12 PM GMT
The horse had enough, that's why he was PU.
Report the dealer March 25, 2024 4:22 PM GMT
SR .  you should know by now, cash is king over horse welfare.

I'm sure the jockey sitting on its back, is in the best position to judge what was best for the horse.
Report stu March 25, 2024 4:24 PM GMT
I never thought I'd see this place turn into an anti-racing forum, but seems there are some...

If that 3rd place trot home would be considered wrong to do, then all jumps racing should be banned....guess that would please some.
Report penzance March 25, 2024 4:28 PM GMT
Still had 3 hdls to get over on a stiff track.
Sun Joy was going better than this & was PU.
Only 4/10 finished in the 1st race.

If he didn't have a bet, he wouldn't have batted an eye lid.
Report stu March 25, 2024 4:29 PM GMT
The first 3 in that last race should have been pulled up - they were all out on their feet at the finish...

dealer I didn't back it, I laid one of the others that was also pulled up in fact. Nothing to do with money this one.

Sorry thought you were replying to me, fair enough dealer.
Report stewarts rise March 25, 2024 4:32 PM GMT
Nothing Anti racing about it stu, you are just looking at it from a punting point of view with no concern for the horse, as i said earlier as he pushed and rode hard to keep horse in contention for previous 1/2 mile, why would be not simply let the horse walk home for 3rd unless he felt horse had enough. If you ever owned a racehorse you'd know why, sorry if it cost you a few quid.
Report stu March 25, 2024 4:34 PM GMT
read above stewarts, nothing to do with money, just some silly judgements on here. Like I say it was going better than everything else that pulled up, had just gone past them all...

No worries

Point is dealer horses get pushed to limits almost every day, so what's so special about walking home in this one.

Anyway, added enough of my own view, leave it to others from here.
Report the dealer March 25, 2024 4:39 PM GMT
Yes but it's done to jockeys judgement. You can't imo say it was going better than others because it looks that visually.
It's all hypothetical but imo I would never criticise a jockey for pulling up if he thinks the horse has had enough, he is in the best position to make that call.

I would say that my views and others like The Dealer and Penzance views are pro racing, forcing kn@ckered horses to complete is what the anti horse racing lobby seize upon.

For what it's worth, I agree completely with the dealer's comments in 16.39 post.
Report BULLET TOOTH TONY March 25, 2024 5:05 PM GMT
He rode it past 3 horses took a long glance behind and then pulled it up. Why did he bother with that effort to pull up when his chance of winning was cooked, Tbf to the horse it looked like it was responding to its pressure after racing lately for most of the race, the others were walking.

But why did he go for it and continue to do so until he looked behind and saw everything had pulled up to stop?
Report doorman99 March 25, 2024 5:06 PM GMT
Precisely.
Report BULLET TOOTH TONY March 25, 2024 5:06 PM GMT
