Earlier in the week the stable that I own and assist with had a horse that overnight, was backed down from around 16/1 to half the price. The following afternoon he was further backed and eventually into an SP of 3/1. At declaration time we thought, as it was a poor contest he had a little E/W shout and although he doesn't show much at home, he was looking well physically. He was declared on much better ground than race day and only ran as he was at the track with the owners there and not expected to enjoy the much slower conditions. How does his price contract so much when nobody was expecting a great deal and has only ever shown modest form in all his starts. Are the markets so weak that they can be easily manipulated? It was reported on TV to be a huge gamble!

Maybe a popular Tipster put it up? It wouldn't have to take much money overnight before the "bookmakers" slashed the price. A few scores and bullseyes would do it! lol

Would have thought you were pleased with how it ran on that ground, no idea why it was heavily backed though.

It was Moro Rock and in all honesty he ran well. Had they not had the rain he would probably have been third but he just couldn't handle the conditions. Even the Timeform comment said 'jumped atrocious last time' but still that wasn't enough to put his supporters off. Baffling.

I posted him as a lay in my thread, don't know why the market is so obsessed with horses that pulled up LTO, I see them steam all the time.

1 place in 7 runs, keeps losing by 15-25 lengths, pulls up LTO, people still fancy him.

I'm not sure why you keep labouring the issue to be honest with youPlain
Your stable is a very small stable so the first place to look is generally with folk close to home given there wouldn't be many candidates.
Most likely one of them has told someone to have a few bob on it?

No damage done with it remainining on the same handicap mark.
