Farcical.

Was a weird one seeing him in that field.

Remember John Best doing it years ago, or something similar with Steely Dan. He used to run and win over a wide range of distances. Though that’s not something you see very often.

what race are they trying to get it qualified for ?

the Pardubice ?
Report Cider March 16, 2024 7:44 PM GMT
Barton Bank off here owns the horse.

I'm sure he knows what he's doing, pulled out of the AGC when fav and well in, and running over a 12f handicap a few runs later Grin

Haha you live on here!
Report BoosterRooster March 16, 2024 7:45 PM GMT
Just seen other thread, running to get qualified for finals day, rather than an experiment to see if he would stay. Seems a bit daft really.
Report HappyHibby March 16, 2024 7:45 PM GMT
we know who owns it Cider...

we can read you know.

At the request of the Integrity Department of the British Horseracing Authority, the Stewards conducted pre-race interviews with Alistair Rawlinson, the rider and Micheal Appleby, the trainer of JUAN LES PINS, which was being upped markedly in trip to run over 1 mile 4 furlongs this evening, having previously been campaigned exclusively over trips of 7 furlongs or less, with its most recent start being over 5 furlongs twenty-one days ago. Appleby was questioned and asked to provide information regarding the selection of this specific race for the gelding, his expectations for today, and the riding instructions Alistair Rawlinson will be receiving on this occasion. His explanations were noted.

Report Cider March 16, 2024 7:50 PM GMT
sparrow didn't cite BB in the OP, so I was kinda assuming he didn't know. Plus, I doubt he would consider BB's choices farcical. I still think he should have taken his chance in the AGC tho lol

I didn't know obviously but nevertheless running the horse over this trip was indeed farcical unless of course you never even saw the race.
Report HappyHibby March 16, 2024 7:53 PM GMT
going by sparrow's 19:34 post he does find it farcical...

which is why he said 'Farcical' imv.
Report Cider March 16, 2024 7:58 PM GMT
Well yes but the context of knowing it's owned by a shrewdie on here should provide some perspective. ie, it's overwhelmingly likely not a mistake, and very likely there was an objective to it. Valid enough to ask what it is.
Report sparrow March 16, 2024 8:01 PM GMT
I simply consider running a sprinter over 12f is totally out of order hence the Integrity department becoming involved. I couldn't care less who owns the poor horse.
Report Cider March 16, 2024 8:12 PM GMT
It's unusual. Les Arcs did it the other way around and infamously won a group 1! afaik it's not against the rules. they are no longer permitted to run in sprints to get a mark and immediately run over middle distances when getting said mark (as SMP used to rinse), but I don't believe it's prevented once the horse has an established record.

Of course over jumps you regularly get long distance chasers protecting their GN by running over short distance hurdles. And running in races that they effectively can't win to qualify for subsequent events.

thanx for the lesson Cider...

i was totally unaware of this practise until you enlightened me about it tonight.

Are you just a bit thick or incredibly thick? What makes you think that I'm posting for your benefit. For the avoidance of doubt, I am not. Now be a good little boy and fück off.
Report HappyHibby March 17, 2024 8:21 AM GMT
no need to be so abusive Cider...

hopefully you will have calmed down this morning and offer an apology for that needless outburst.
Report Barton Bank March 17, 2024 1:09 PM GMT
Here are the facts. He was supposed to run at Newcastle over 5f which would have qualified him to run in the sprint championship on Good Friday. Through no fault of my own the entry was missed and therefore he could not run in the suitable race I had earmarked for him. I therefore decided to run the horse in the only other race he was qualified to run in. Apologies if that offends anyone.
Report BoosterRooster March 17, 2024 1:19 PM GMT
Wasn’t offended. To be honest hadn’t even looked at the race, and turned over to see Wokingham 3rd running in 12f wol hcap, then came on here to find out why.

By seems a bit daft, meant daft that you’re allowed to qualify that way, not that you’ve done it. That’s obviously not daft, fair play and good luck on finals day.
Report Barton Bank March 17, 2024 1:43 PM GMT
Cheers, rules simply state you have to run three times on the AW between mid October and 23rd (I think) of March to qualify and then it goes on ratings. Had there been another race over a shorter distance obviously he would have run in that and the controversy would not have occurred. The horse is fine this morning and will have a standard preparation.
Report the dealer March 17, 2024 2:02 PM GMT
Wouldn't it be great, if the story ended with a win at Newcastle. Best of luck when he runs.

I got the winner with 365 horse challenge. I need a couple more to share £5k.
Report Cider June 22, 2024 5:15 PM BST
Travelled pretty well, perfect conditions. No real excuses there, likely needs a longer trip - down the ratings.
Report impossible123 June 22, 2024 6:09 PM BST
I got that winner too. I need the declared fav for the last after my selection was withdrawn. But, Joseph has the 1st and 2nd fav; Joseph has not had a winner in this renewal so far.
Report impossible123 June 22, 2024 6:20 PM BST
I've got a share of £5k for selecting 4 winners, if the winner is the declared fav. Fingers crossed!
