I had a quid on it at 130/1 but only cos I like Duran Fentiman - the deductions took it down to 87/1

I don't lay horses full stop: that's the mug's game triple distilled. The dying sport has a bad rep in its nether regions (Class 6s at Southwell being very nether). I believe Pricewise refers to all-weather racing in the Racing Post as 'c rap'.

A horse I part owned 1/20th (it`s left ear) ran and trainer told us:
will need the run prefers a turning track doesn`t like soft badly drawn needs to come with a late run will be better for the race
Broke well, made all and won by 7 lengths. Never had a penny on.
Next time out, he said it was the proverbial certainty and started favourite and finished stone last.

I don't endorse Pricewise, I don't take tips off anyone. My point, Sparrow old chum, is that the all-weather is OPENLY DERIDED IN THE INDUSTRY NEWSPAPER. OPENLY DERIDED. That says a lot. I like a bit of all-weather myself but results like that are a bad joke. In 30 years when this sport is gone - trust me, it will be or severely reduced, it will be worth remembering all the thousands of incidents that drove people away from it. The whole interest of handicapping is beating a market based on study, observation and creative thinking. Otherwise you might as a well play sh*t on a machine which, once AI has turned the world inside out, is what people will be doing.

Penultimate run was beaten 33 lengths. Yes, he improved last time but he was f*cked halfway like he was f*cked halfway over 1m3f. This time round it's a different horse completely. OK, it's a bit of a plot. What do I say to a plot I can't find: ha bloody ha. WHY THE F*CK SHOULD WE BE PHILOSOPHICAL ABOUT HOW TRICKY-DICKY THIS GAME IS? W'RE PAYING FOR IT! WE'RE THE F*CKING HEROES KEEPING IT GOING THROUGH THE LEVY BOARD. I've NEVER understood that lark of saying it's bad form to moan. Why? Chr*st on a tandem, it couldn't be made more difficult half the time, it couldn't be made more financially unprepossessing by bookmakers' greed - yet people give it a go. I think moaning is the way forward.

Gaze, I never back favourites; I agree that big prices are great: but punters need a sporting chance to find the winner, otherwise it becomes simply an insult to the intelligence, like casino chance games are. See above posts. Also - and I'm NOT talking about Mongoose here - if a horse wins at a vast price after much cunning campaigning and finishing nowhere and f*cked etc ie could have obtaining better placings or won in previous outings - then every single person who has bet on that animal previously has been defrauded even if none of it is enforceable in law; additionally, the form book is distorted and so on. NO ONE on here can say it doesn't happen because the history of the sport and the jockey club is littered with cases.

Colonel, no one with any common sense would dispute what you are saying. We all know it goes on every single day and will continue to do so. It`s the nature of the beast or game. But we still bet and will continue to do so because we are all addicts. Owners and trainers don`t run them for our benefit. Handicap racing is a game of chess between the connections, bookies and owners. It will never ever change.

With some of the reasoning here, I don't understand why you don't go out, get a share in a horse, buy a horse. Do what you say and make yourself a fortune.
Just a couple of question though, how many racehorses never make the track? How many never win a race. Those that land a gamble good luck to them because the majority fail for many reasons.

Never had a penny on this one, but sparrow and gaze are spot on in what they are saying.
Of course longshots like this can (and sometimes will) win - and of course it will mean some improvement from what they've done before.
OR they wouldn't be a longshot in price would they?

Interestingly, if anyone wants to moan about a horse in that race, it would probably have been the favourite - interesting run, and what a surprise which trainer...

It took our horse 5 races to beat a single horse home. That wasn't by design but that was where she was in her career, backward, a nervous wreck and she didn't know what to do. You can't beat the experience of racing, nothing at home prepares them for it. Where having a good opening mark helps, the improvement can simply come from them growing up and understanding what they are there to do.
2 very fair points from the 2 posters above.
