"Kenny Alexander, former Chief Executive, GVC (Ladbrokes etc now Entain) over 4 years ago discussing affordability checks.

Is this where the concept of intrusive affordability checks using banking data was born?

Full Lords hearing video is, frankly, astonishing"

Ronnie, it's a very revealing clip, as even then he talked of single view, with bookmakers sharing information on any one punter so that they can't reach their limit with one bookmaker and then simply move on to the next, and he concluded by saying that with this approach the number of problem gamblers would be much reduced from 400,000 within 3 - 5 years.

So it would appear to be the Big Corp bookies themselves who have brought AC's about.

The origin of it all was the gambling act "review", which started in early 2020. Bookies obviously played along with the idea. The GC issued a consultation in late 2020, got 12k responses, entirely ignored them and never published the results.

I suspect that the purpose of that "consultation" was to tell the bookies what was expected of them and they had no intention of wading through the responses.

They then revived the checks in the gambling white paper and once again we will see them ignore the responses to the consultation next month.

Incredible! Yet another clueless clown who's somehow blagged his way into top Jobs in the industry. On one of the first threads on here about the introduction of ACs. I posted jokingly that people should be allocated a quota on how many Alcoholic drinks you can buy during each 24 hour period. You'd have a personal electronic card which you'd have to use every time you buy a drink. This way you can't sneak in a few extra drinks by going to another pub. That's exactly what this clown is suggesting should happen for someone who enjoys a bet. And now it's actually going to happen.
