Terribly awful news to read that David Ashforth is struggling health wise.
Many of us on here will know David from his "The Sporting Life" column for his observations about the world of those racing, amongst other things, in his own unique and humorousl style.
Not forgetting his love and passion for Brighton races of course along with Ian Carnaby in tow.

"Just been diagnosed with bowel cancer to go with my prostrate cancer.
I think people should be restricted to one type of cancer at a time."

I'm pretty sure he did post on here at one stage, early 2000's if memory serves.

Best wishes to him and hope to see him on parade at Brighton this coming season.

His book, "Hitting The Turf", is a wonderful read.

He was taking a keen interest by the parade ring yesterday and looking a picture of health. I think I saw him at Bath at the weekend too, by the bookstall.

I liked his yearly winning challenge in the ring. IIRC it was at Xmas time.

I first noticed him when he did an article rubbishing John Gosden. As you can imagine that was many years ago. Probably the last time a journalist produced an honest opinion.

David shone like a beacon among the majority dreary dross of charlatan journos that shamelessly pose as punters' pals. Always entertaining, a pleasure to read, I wish David a speedy recovery and hopefully a return to the trade media to mark our cards.

I doubt very much if Mr Ashforth, excellent journalist that he is, wrote "prostrate" cancer!!

Ashforth and Geofrey Barnard, both decent columns in the Sporting Life if I recall.

It's excellent news to hear he's still out and about.
Good on him.
