I'm struggling with these a bit. Can someone summerise how these will effect us please?
Will they effect someone who wins on a regular basis or is it to stop losers?

Horse racing should be taken out of the argument…..full stop.

You will get a limit, 100 500 1000 2000 3000 etc, when you hit it you cant deposit till it re-sets 1st of every month.

What about withdrawels? If you withdraw say £500. Does this count towards your re-set?

The way betfair do it, your deposit limit resets every month. If you start this month with 500 deposit limit, and withdraw 500, your deposit limit for this month is now 1000. It resets every month back to original limit, regardless of you withdrew the previous month.

Every company does it differently though.

No idea what happens when actual rules come into play, even less when/if they try to implement single customer view, so your limits then count across all bookmakers. Unworkable and complete waste of time and effort imo.

If you are winning regularly you won’t be affected. If you are winning, but are prone to losing streaks, you might be. Though ultimately, everyone is affected, as the markets on here will die a slow death. Already happening tbf.

Booster is spot on.

Unless a miracle happens then you've got 2 choices either do the affordability checks or let the exchange die, don't care a toss about the bookmakers they dug their own grave.

Doing the affordability check is no guarantee of keeping your account either. They are massively frustrating, nothing seems to satisfy them, and you will very likely emerge from it with a deposit limit under what you asked for.

Why they can’t just allow the customer to set their own monthly/yearly deposit/loss limits is beyond me.

I’m never complying again. Next company that comes for me I’m just gonna let them close the account, it’s not worth the hassle.

Just stick with the exchanges and never mind the bookmakers.

Booster- was that the same experience with betfair? I've only done two, betfair and Tote, betfair was easy took 45 mins, tote not so 5 day back and forth, others not even bothered no point anymore they not bookies these days.

Checks are completely pointless anyway.

According to the campaigners and anti gambling mob that are now demanding them, what happens if you fail one, and can’t satisfy the company that you are not in financial trouble, or at risk, is what they are calling the “HARD STOP”.

The account gets closed, and the gambler has then been saved from unaffordable losses, gambling harm, and the intervention has been successful, and possibly saved a life.

What it wrongly assumes, is that the gambler who has failed the check will then:

In no way try to circumvent the checks by proving false documentation,
Or by asking a friend to deposit so they can carry on betting in their name,
Or go into the land based markets where they have a whole host of arcades, casinos, bookies, bingo halls etc to move in and out of, completely undetected,
Or by taking up a different, more riskier, form of high stakes gambling, ie stock trading

And definitely, in no way, would the compulsive gambling addict seek to bypass these checks and account closures completely, by betting with an unregulated or unlicensed or offshore casino or betting company.

Whole thing is a complete waste of time, will definitely stop people gambling, and reduce gambling spend, particularly in the legal market. But won’t do anything to help an addict, who unfortunately , given how they are wired, will see the checks and restrictions as a challenge to get around, and not as a reason to stop betting.

Only people who will stop will be non addicted, regular customers, driven away by all the unnecessary mither.

Yeah same, betfair was soul destroying, went on for ages, though did at least get to keep my account, albeit with a deposit limit.

Tote are absolutely shocking, closed my account, refuse to reopen, even with £100 monthly deposit limit.

Had another exchange account closed (not purple) but not that bothered about that one.

Rarely bother with bookmakers either, though do have a couple of good accounts, which I like, but am now too scared to used. A couple of them, as soon as I have a couple of losers bombard me with safer gambling messages, tools, deposit limits etc. I’m genuinely scared of using them now, obviously if I win they get restricted/closed, and now if I lose, they get restricted/closed too. Tend to just try and use them for festival multiples /sparingly now. But not had any ‘big firm’ checks done, mainly because I rarely use them. So I’ve no idea what their process is.

Fair enough booster, like I said 2 choices now but there's a massive agenda behind all this which I said when it all first started during covid, scary times even our democracy is under threat!

I agree with you ladycarla.

There is clearly an agenda at play here. This can’t be an accident, nobody can be that stupid.

As you suggest BR even the best have losing runs. In the Phil Bull book it mentions one year ( think '63 ) when he was 20k down by the Ebor meeting. Obviously had gambling problems Wink

Stick to the exchanges.

I despise bookmakers too, ladycarla. If you start winning, your soon shut-down. If you're a casual punter who likes a bet on the horses, exchanges are the bestHappy. At least you're up against others with a view, and don't get shut down from winning in most cases.
You should have no problems getting on at Cheltenham either huge liquidity right before the off.

Sticking to the exchanges makes no difference in regards to affordability.

Anyone with a non-political mind which is most people they can do what they want. I think they are trying to get rid of middle class life leaving rich and slaves.

So lets say someone has lost 20k on here over the last 20 years. Can they now claim all this back as it was unaffordable? A bit ;
like the payday loans fiasco?

Who on earth is depositing every month? If you are a mug punter, stick to the shops, they will take all your bets.
By:

When: 01 Mar 24 10:45
Yes, that’s part of the problem, milo222.

It’s only really in hindsight that losses become unaffordable.

Lots of examples of high net worth individuals, who clearly could afford their losses at the time, years down the line, when all those losses have mounted up, deciding that they couldn’t afford them, and that the bookmaker took advantage of them.

go to the racetrack.  have a grand on an even money shot, lay it here at 10/11

loses, you've just deposited a grand.  without impacting your allowance.

apart from the fact that you will never, ever, ever, ever, get an arb with a racecourse book, you know well that if the horses wins, the alarm bell rings and you're sending off your full financial history, if you ever want to lay another grand.
