Flying over for the day and really looking forward to it , only been once before and loved the place, hoping to have time for some lunch in the castle and a walk around the town . Backing a couple of winners to pay the expenses will be a priority but overall a day to enjoy ...

Just home, a goodish day though the flight into Birmingham was unreal, small Aer Lingus plane thought it was going to be blown away coming in ,going from side to side scary to say the least, anyway alls well that ends well, upgraded to a automatic from Eurocar guy said only a slight difference in price turned out it was £50, slight eh a proper ripoff . Anyhow arrived early and parked the car and headed into the course for something to eat , big mistake . Food was worse than bad , I backed the second winner so was feeling a little happier backed two more winners but ended up giving it back and a little more with it , my English friend got in touch to give me two certs at Donny both well beaten..Ended up in the town and went and had food in a pub called the Church , couldn't eat the fish it was Skate gave it back and they didn't even allow me for it my friend also gave his back it was simply terrible and I'd say gone off , but the rest of the meal was lovely. Town was closed up early maybe it was half day Wed..Still get a sense of awe while walking around that beautiful town..I shall be back , not to the eateries though. A little study of Thurles now before hitting the land of Nod. Night and God bless all....

After all that workrider your very forgiving going back ,I’ve never been back to Salisbury because they wouldn’t let me cross the course with an ice cream ,
Surprised at your experience at the church if I was to recommend a pub in Ludlow it would have been the church but like horses places have of days.

Wasn't the ground awful there yesterday! I caught the free shuttle bus from the station, and where it crossed the back straight of the chase course there was literally zero grass on the approach to the obstacles. I know that racegoers notice the going at Ludlow more than at other courses, on account of having to cross the area after the winning line before and after each race to get to the paddock, but I'd never seen divots like it. Though I'm sure workrider has seen them race on worse at some of the Irish gaffs.
Incidentally, does anyone know why they parade anti-clockwise at Ludlow? It's a right pain, because the handlers are still walking round to the horse's near side, with their numbered armbands on their left arms. If the horse is rugged, you often can't tell which one it is.
I did my b0ll0cks on the afternoon, but I still like the place. Can't help it. It's just a throwback to a better time. If only those chimneys on the roof of the stand weren't blocked off. It would be like a time machine to stand up there next to them with smoke emerging, as it must have done a few decades ago.

Was at Ludlow yesterday as well. It really is the most delightful of courses, run by people who love the NH game, and supported by true NH fans.
No sign of p!ssheads or cokeheads.
They race almost exclusively weekdays (one Sunday meeting and separately one evening gig) which helps
If I lived a bit closer I'd take out membership.

Haven't been to Ludlow for a couple of years but go to a lot of meetings at nearby Hereford Used to be able to go to the very top of the stand, basically the roof of the stand for a great view Not sure if health and safety has stopped this?

Reg, I made it up twice you simply can't go to Ludlow and not experience racing from atop of the roof simply magic. As Parispike says a real old fashioned type course full of real racing people , even had a guy to open the door at the Clive ,we had some cake and tea there and it was lovely .Screaming had the exact same thoughts as yourself re been unable to tell which horse was which as they came around the paddock due to numbers not been shown . Pity we didn't all meet up and I would have bought ye all a pint..My next trip is Wincanton soon...

The forum speaks and Ludlow listens: the horses had numbered discs attached to the off-sides of their bridles today, so you could identify the rugged runners in the parade ring.
It would be simpler to parade clockwise, of course, but maybe Ludlow will work that out in the end.
Stephen Little was there, still selling his book. He must have sold at least some copies, because he cycled back to the station on what looked like a brand-new Trek bike.
