All the waffle this week about this one and the Triumph hurdle. He might win it if he gets a hurdle start.

Maybe if it started now? £200,000+ for that. Didn't even put up much of a fight in what was probably a dreadful race.

Don C53yHc 4K    1m4f    Sft    9-11    1/10 by 1L Graham 9-1   It's one win on the flat.  But yeah that's summer soft.  I don't think Ramruma would suggest it's a good buy at 215k.

What it doesn't need is an exorbitant price tag with the market expectations from such a tag and successful connections to give punters an even bigger expectation.

If it cost £35k , trained in the West Country somewhere and been 12/1 it would suddenly have become a good run FTO with a nice little race around the corner.

High guessing expectations together with hindsight can draw an unfair conclusion sometimes.

Had it been £35,000 it would still have been a poor run, only it wouldn't have attracted as much attention. The Racing Post write up is one out of the top drawer 'soon weakened gradually'.

was wondering pre race how anyone can think a 80 flat horse is worth £215,000

it's a great example rico (especially as highest winning mark is 77 )  I thought Golden Maverick looked pricey at 100k ( beat 1st hurdle race catterick )  highest winning mark 75  but this a lot worse.   In the latter case there's a bit of an excuse because it's an owners group ( 4000 or so "owners" ) and such firms tend to pay over the odds for proven likeable types with fairly modest marks.

Another way of looking at it is owners groups or big syndicates getting ripped off; same happens to new owners.

But the other angle is a trickle down effect from the squillions paid for anything out of France or an Irish point to point, or by other countries for Flat horses, and you end up where everything is too expensive based on its likely (or even possible) future winnings.

"Another way of looking at it is owners groups or big syndicates getting ripped off; same happens to new owners".   Same as any purchase isn't it ? Market forces. And what percentage of owners buy horses to make money/a profit ?

Sheehan got himself boxed in from about 6f out there. Gave the horse no chance of winning.
