In a rational world, yes, but some people do believe they are blessed with good luck and so carry on too long.

In this case, there is a big difference between £12,000 and a million. For most people, £12,000 is a second-hand mid-range car. It is a year's pension or student debt. £1,000,000 is life-changing.
