The editor will be furious - he has only used the word "Draconian" once in his opening paragraph!

FINALLY! Where has he been? In a bunker sponsored by bookies? If only he's taken the time to wise-up reading posts here. He's admitted restrictions do reduce/restrict levy contribution to horseracing; a long term losing punter is better for horseracing/levy contribution than a short-term price savvy loser/winner.
Better late than never, I guess. Nevertheless, a PLONKER of the highest order! |

What became strikingly obvious in one of Britain's racing heartlands was trainers, punters, bookmakers and racegoers are vehemently opposed to the state dictating how we spend our own money. Also laid bare was the enormous damage affordability checks are doing to a sport that fears Sunak's draconian approach to gambling will create even more destructive waves in an already rough sea.
As if this is Sunak's doing ![]() Christ if the markets are right in regard to the next PM and colour of gvnt, he ain't seen nothing yet ! |

Lee Mottershead & his RP mates discuss restrictions (along with British & Irish entries for the Grand National, and Newbury) in the Racing Post's video series, The Front Page.

'Ramruma', they are sycophants and bookies' stooges. They deliberately and knowingly not acknowledging restrictions exist and detrimental to horseracing levy. They are at least one year late acknowledging this sharp practice of their paymasters.

I meant one "decade" late in acknowledging this sharp practice of their paymasters.

Australian rules stipulate the minimum bet size that bookmakers must accept on the race concerned.
If you have a bet that falls under the minimum bet limit, the bookmaker is prohibited from refusing the bet, offering you lower than advertised odds, or taking other action that would prevent them from taking the bet (such as closing your account). Ozzies have the blueprint, can't come in here b'cos too many 'in authority' are in bed with the bookies |

To be fair to Mottershead he has banged this drum before. However being of a cynical nature I rather fear it's, in effect, the editor's (Kerr) tokenistic crumb thrown at the punters to try and maintain the fiction the Rancid is on the punters side. Sadly they aren't.
Perhaps telling that the article is behind the paywall whereas the endless affordability articles are free to view. Why? |

We hear about ridiculous restrictions but a colleague of LMs reports winning £40k in 12 months. He gets 3 figure bets on the with Hills and Lads etc For those that believe Birch is a fantasist he is an employee of the RP surely they would not allow which boils down to lying in print.
