Apparently it turns out that it's too dark to run this race. But no one figured this out until this morning.

the lights are on but no-ones in. or the lights aren't on , at least on the round course. what about the 5.05?
By:
They wished they had all the lights on but the planning application failed, disruption to the houses down that side apparently
By:
I didn't think it was that dark at 5.05,
By:
Or maybe we get more daylight up here

There's a race scheduled on the round course for 7pm in March, I wonder when they'll notice...

The second scheduled race on Newcastle's Thursday card was postponed in unusual circumstances. The 1m2f handicap, which was due off at 5.05, will instead be run at the track's Saturday card for safety reasons. The Class 6 contest was due off after sunset and with floodlights only covering the straight course at Newcastle, the BHA deemed that it would be unsafe to stage the race.
The opener, due off at 4.30, will be delayed by ten minutes to decrease the time gap between what is now the second race at 5.35. |

I should be saying unbelievable but arc,and the bha and whilst not at fault this time jcr are all a hindrance on uk racing.

By:
the 4.30 might be interesting if the judge has a crap pic, may be in a dead ht situation

yeah, they spotted it this morning ![]() ![]() ![]() |

By:
They didn't even bother lighting up the finish in the 4.30. Couldn't see jack on the slo-mo. Wonder how the photo came out?
By:
4.30 winning distance given as a short head. Thought it would have been closer than that? Looking forward to the photo - still not been published on BHA.
By:
Still no photo published for the 4.30. Perhaps you couldn't see anything on that either.
By:
still not posted, hope we don't find out it was judge's call.

still not posted, hope we don't find out it was judge's call. Certainly looks that way until a photo finish appears somewhere. |
By:
apaprently the 3rd was miscalled too and that was given as a head, bets resettled.
By:
Maybe we'll learn more when the stewards report appears.
By:
If you mess around with the brightness on the slo-mo you can just make out the far side's nose, highlighted with a red dot. Really tough angle at Newcastle, but draw in the approx finish line and it does look to me that near-side winner was the right call. There's no way that was ever a short head though.

I think near won too, but as we've spoken about before far side is always doing better than it appears from tv pics so I think it was close.
By:
100% was correct decision..easily seen on atr.
By:
i thort it had won a couple of inches..suprised given as a sh hd.
By:
STILL no stewards report for Newcastle on the BHA website. I wonder what's taking so long?
By:
No Stewards' report was ever published for this meeting. I guess we'll never find out whether there was ever a proper photo or was judges decision.
