Rico, when you bring up its profile on the RP site, look above, you'll see the ten.

For races, they adjust it to a minimum of 45 for whatever reason.

so Hugh tipped a horse thats 35lb wrong?
Report GEORGE.B January 30, 2024 10:31 PM GMT
He pointed out the horse was running over a more appropriate trip in line with its pedigree, had been gelded, had first-time headgear, and Boughey had done well with a similar sort in Queen Of Ipanema, who had also similarly been initially poorly rated.

it hasn't been raised , it's still rated '10' for now but race conditions tomorrow means minimum rating in a 51-70 will be 8-4 so relative to the topweight it will be running off 48 so 3lb wrong in the long handicap from its '45' rating albeit in reality it is 38lbs wrong hence the RP states

Hugh Taylor has tipped a horse that has never recorded an RPR in four tries and is rated 10. Good case too. Morning.
Report Rico-Dangleflaps January 30, 2024 11:31 PM GMT
if Bradman ran to 55 and beat it 1/2L giving it 9lb something to do has to now be rated 46-48 allowing for more improvement.
Report Rico-Dangleflaps January 30, 2024 11:33 PM GMT
not a bad improvement..38lbs in 1 run.

So they like to pretend in these instances that no horse is rated lower than the mid-40s

But it's not just low grade races where this happens, for example, during the turf season, there are handicaps where the rating band is for example, 80-100, but horses with lower ratings are allowed to run, but it will stipulate in the race conditions that they are assumed to have the minimum rating. I'm pretty sure there's one of these at Nottingham.
Report swiftynifty January 31, 2024 11:08 AM GMT
some races have a maximum weight range so the minimum rating will be determined by the highest runner -20lb
Report leif January 31, 2024 10:47 PM GMT
finished in front of two hosses who ran off a mark of 67 when runner-up this evening.

odds he'll be assessed as a hoss rated 10 ?

-38Laugh
Report swiftynifty January 31, 2024 10:55 PM GMT
he was getting 15 pounds from those 2 which means 52 is about right (for now at least). So 10 was a tad low, either the handicapper should be getting his P45 or Boughey should be hauled in. Of course in reality neither will happen.
Report leif January 31, 2024 11:00 PM GMT
The handicappers can only look at the maiden performances and make some fashion of a performance mark.
If a hoss is beaten a 100 lengths or whatever what are they to do?
On balance its last mark of 46 when runner-up was spot on.

Botti had one in this race tonight that ran off 60. beaten out of sight but how long will it take for that to get to a hcap mark off which it can win.
Report swiftynifty January 31, 2024 11:13 PM GMT
He didn't give it a mark of 46, he gave it a mark of 10, that's the point. It ran from 38lbs 'wrong' in the end.
Report leif January 31, 2024 11:23 PM GMT
It was made to run off 46.
For me that it is its provisional handicap mark first time up in a handicap race.
that 10 was a performance rating based on what it had achieved in 3 maiden races of little note.
HTF can it be definitively 38lb wrong in a class 5 race based on 3 outings in maiden races?
Report swiftynifty January 31, 2024 11:39 PM GMT
You can read it how you like . The fact is he got an official mark of 10. If connections had decided to run him in a 0-100 with a 20lb weight band he'd have run off 80 and been 70lbs wrong.
Report swiftynifty January 31, 2024 11:40 PM GMT
In reality there should be a minimum rating required to appear in handicaps, maybe 10lbs wrong max to force them to show 'more' of their hand in maidens. It's cheating plain and simple.
Report sageform February 1, 2024 9:01 AM GMT
It is an imperfect system. The 2yo rule where you have to finish in the first 4 to get a mark could be extended until a horse has run 5 or 6 times perhaps.
Report sparrow February 1, 2024 10:50 AM GMT
Prefer the American system of claimers than our handicaps. At least most will be be trying rather than messing about going up and down the ratings waiting for the right day.

you predicted 55 on 30 Jan.

It has taken another good second off 48 (31/01/24) and a win off 51(02/02/24) for the mark to NOW be raised to 55.

So you were completely wrong in fact.

Not angry George, had just discovered you're psychic then and had foreseen his next 2 runs?!

The handicapper has let him off lightly which only encourages the cheating to continue.
