Did something happen post-paddock

13s to 170s is one of the biggest I've ever seen.

Probably fit on the back of a postage stamp the names of the progeny of Camelot who've won over 6f at 3YO+, mind, he is out of an Invincible Spirit mare, so there was a bit of speed in the mix in the gene pool.

The form comment for the 4th December, when the jock got a ten day ban for not obtaining the best possible position, nearly takes up half a page in the paper.

And here it is from that date:

An enquiry was held into the running and riding of PIERREFONDS, ridden by Pierre-Louis Jamin and trained by Jack Jones, which was slowly away and raced towards the rear throughout before staying on under apparent tender handling from approaching 2½ furlongs out to finish sixth of eleven, beaten by 9¾ lengths. Jamin and Jones were interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer performed two post-race examinations of the gelding which was selected for routine testing and had nothing to report, other than PIERREFONDS had lost its right fore shoe. Jamin stated that his instructions were to make sure he got PIERREFONDS to relax with cover and finish his race off to obtain the best possible placing. Jamin explained that he was aware the gelding had a history of being very keen in his bumper runs and for this reason he was happy to allow PIERREFONDS to find his feet early and was therefore reluctant to bustle him along after being slowly away. He added that PIERREFONDS ran freely through the first 2 furlongs despite the pace being solid, before eventually settling halfway down the back straight and explained that he had relinquished his position to the inside of MARK THE SPARKS, unplaced, which was running very keenly after entering the back straight for fear of lighting his mount up or being contacted in any way. Jamin further added that approximately 3½ furlongs out, he briefly became short of room to the inside of ROCKLYN (IRE), unplaced, and again steadied his mount to ensure he kept the gelding balanced. In explaining his riding during the final 3 furlongs, Jamin stated he felt PIERREFONDS had been outpaced when the tempo increased and is a big horse, which he considered would benefit from being held onto and helped around the tight bends until straightening up, whereupon he rode the gelding out hands and heels to the line and stayed on through beaten horses after the leaders had got first run on him. The trainer confirmed the instructions and gave a detailed account of the horse’s previous runs, racing manners and stalls history, before indicating that the ride had accorded with his instructions. Jamin was suspended for 10 days for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures throughout the race, in that he had failed to ride his mount in such a way that he could be seen to ask for timely, real and substantial effort to obtain the best possible placing on PIERREFONDS.

He's a full brother to a filly who won over an extended mile.

So a son of Camelot who started off in bumpers and now they're running him over sprint trips.

Who knows, maybe they'll find one so bad that he'll get away with the trip, but it's looking like he wants longer distances ideally.

Interestingly, he was only 17-2 for his debut in a bumper in a race where Archie Watson, Andrew Balding and Nigel Twiston-Davies had runners.

7/1 Morning show RPost £165,000 Purchase price - nicely bred by Camelot

Following the race, Dylan Hogan reported that PIERREFONDS, unplaced, was restless in the stalls and as a result, was slowly away.

Nothing else of interest

It was 170/1 at the start, quite a while before going in the stalls

watched 4 of its last few races..over 6f it was entitled to be 100/1...its been well outpaced in all its 6-7f races..will never win a race over that distance..the run on 4th it got outpaced and was behind and plodded on..the way it ran almost certainly exacerbated its ability over a sprint trip.
