Sounds similar to what Martin Dwyer said, Hibby, when he quit the Hamdan second job - can't commit to outside rides because they're having to wait on where the first jockey decides to go.
Suppose for someone like Dane O'Neill in his 40s, it's a role that offers some financial security and a nice busman's holiday in Dubai every winter in the twilight of his career, but for a young ambitious fella like Fallon, can't be good unless the retainer is a big one, imo.

and i'm not sure how long Tom Marquand will be at Haggis' tbh...
so he probably has an eye on that job over the next year or two.
spot on GEORGE...totally agree...and i'm not sure how long Tom Marquand will be at Haggis' tbh...so he probably has an eye on that job over the next year or two.
Hibby, I'd be surprised if Marquand leaves the Haggas job because there aren't many bigger ones?
Buick won't be leaving Godolphin for a while, James Doyle has landed the Wathnan Racing retainer, Colin Keane is probably favourite for the Ballydoyle job when Moore leaves it, and it seems the Gosdens are going to make Shoemark their number one.
I think Marquand has been doing well in Japan, so suppose an offer come from there or Hong Kong, or even Australia where he has ridden Group 1 winners for Haggas.

well i must say if i was given the choice of Shoemark or Marquand...
it would be the latter every day of the week GEORGE...
a few blunders and he will have a target on his back imv...
and how long will Moore be at Ballydoyle ?
who knows tbh...
but if he left tomorrow i reckon Marquand would be in with a decent chance tbh...
all speculation of course...
and maybe he is perfectly happy at Haggis' and would turn down a bigger job ?
but the Haggis job is a pretty good one anyway imv.

as GEORGE says King Cieren clearly has ambitions in the game.
D O'Neil was completely different aceform...was never going to get a bigger job...was always going to be a number 2 type...as GEORGE says King Cieren clearly has ambitions in the game.
Few young kids coming through now Harry Davies could land a big job in the near…--------------------------------------------------------------------------------can't see it myself aceform.
Most are capable they just need the break like the ‘top bracket’ getting the cream
Remember James Doyle riding around the aw and Charlton gave him a group winner the media do the rest…imo.

I got slammed for say if William Carson went to Coolmore or Godolphin for a good few years how would his cv look, loads of point and shoot material….capable horseman imv

i don't disagree that there are loads out there who could/would do the job if given the opportunity aceform...
same with trainers imv...
if you are riding/training 0-65 handicappers 7 days a week you won't ride/train many classic winner imv...
it's up to owners to share the goodies out more and not constantly give well bred horses to the usual suspects.

nobody talks about him at the moment as a 'top class jockey'...
rides a couple of Group 1 winners for Gosden and all of a sudden they will all say he is a 'top class jockey'...
guarantee it.

The other thing which might have influenced Fallon's decision, assuming that he has chosen to leave of his own accord, could be the emergence of Wathnan racing.
Yes, the big unmasking is that Wathnan Racing is really the Emir Of Qatar – one of the richest men around and the current ruler of Qatar – Sheikh Tamin. Tamin’s brother Sheikh Joaan runs the Al Shaqab Racing and his cousin Sheikh Fahad runs Qatar Racing.
They're apparently independent of each other, with Wathnan supposedly very much quality over quantity, but if they did merge then Fallon would be down to number three choice.

According to this Hibby, Richard Brown is described as their "chief scout"https://sportslens.com/uk/news/who-are-wathnan-racing-ascot-gold-cup-owner-revealed-as-emir-of-qatar-24-08-23/
Cash like confetti, look at Meydan with riders raking in the cash and would struggle to get a ride at Wolverhampton….
I wonder how long young Egan will last….probably first shd I would imagine
