Race 6 - 4:10pm
THE RACING TV PROFITS RETURNED TO RACING NOVICES' HANDICAP HURDLE RACE (CLASS 5) An enquiry was held into the running and riding of FAINCHE (IRE), ridden by Emma Smith-Chaston and trained by Micky Hammond which was ridden in rear to stay on to finish third, beaten 2 ¾ lengths. The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the Handicapper offered observations and the Veterinary Officer performed a post-race examination of the mare, which was selected for routine testing and had nothing to report. The rider stated that her instructions were to jump off, get the mare settled and turning into the home straight allow FAINCHE (IRE) to finish strongly. Smith-Chaston added that a good pace was being set considering that the mare was being stepped up in trip. The rider explained that FAINCHE (IRE) started hanging-right handed in snatches from leaving the stands on the final circuit. Smith-Chaston went on to explain that the mare suffered interference having jumped the last flight down the back straight and there on persisted to hang right. Smith-Chaston further added that FAINCHE (IRE) jumped the second last well before proceeding to hang in behind another runner resulting in Smith-Chaston having to pull on her left rein in order prevent the mare racing closely on heels. The rider finalised by adding that having jumped the last well FAINCHE (IRE) stayed on well passing tiring horses to finish third which in her opinion had obtained the best possible placing considering the circumstances. Micky Hammond confirmed the instructions and added that he was delighted with today’s run having pulled up at Catterick on the mare’s stable debut. Hammond felt that the mare had obtained the best possible placing in his opinion. Their explanations were noted, and Smith-Chaston was fined £140 for failing to make a report at scales that FAINCHE (IRE) had hung right-handed. |
