Catt 14:25 – Hajay – 7.0
Took a little time to find winning form over hurdles scoring on his 6th hurdle start when upped to 20 furlongs in Jan 2022 off a rating of 88 and followed up on it’s next start in Feb off a rating of 95. Had a break until Oct and ran well on it’s next couple of starts finishing 2nd and 3rd off ratings of 100 and 105.
Had every chance next time when unseating at the last here off 105. Next time finished 2nd again here off 107 and then won this race off 111. Raised to 115 was again put away until October where he finished 3rd but didn’t progress on it’s next two start PU and 6th.
Had a 6 week break and won the race in which he finished 2nd in last year before winning this race. Has been raised 4lb for that win – the same amount as for finishing 2nd in it last year. Looks to have been laid out for a repeat in this race.
Likes the track, likes the distance, likes the going, like this time of year, same jockey from a small stable and has been making steady progress and to my mind should be joint or co favourite with the other two at the front of the market.
They are Herakles Westwood, who is on a hat-trick and must be feared but those win were in class 5 races so must show improvement to win here, and Autumn Return who has excellent form figures having won 4 of her 10 hurdle starts the last two when allowed to tackle today’s distance. My one concern would be that they were mares only races and the last time she raced against the boys she finished 2nd but that was over 16 furlongs and she was staying on. She’s feared the most stepped back up in distance.
