I think Fitzy is Wrong about The Racing Bubble

It was in the past, times change, visions change its called evolution whats in the past is viewed as history and we not all proud of things weve done or seen but its life.....

Racing people lose touch with the outside world…..fact

You don't half talk some **** ....fact.

There are things that some people feel aren't acceptable now that others feel are acceptable. Other things were seen as acceptable a few months ago, are flipped by some to be unacceptable.

In fact that is a form of bullying. Especially those of a woke disposition. And when it comes to language.

Unfortunately I suspect Fitz is like so many people now, they take the lazy, easy, weak, soft option, and don't say what they really think. They just play along with what they think others want to hear.

Robbie Dunne was actually right about his critism, she did let her horse wander around when in front,he dealt with it wrong.
But he’s served his sentence,so it shouldn’t be dragged up again to punish him.

I agree with that point, wee Holly seems to struggle a bit as well

Why can't the cretins on ITV racing leave it alone and let Bryony, and Robbie for that matter, get on with their jobs. If they are good enough they will get more rides.
Time for a big change in ITV racing presenters imo. I like Adele Mulrennan and Jason Weaver otherwise I turn the volume down. Just my opinion.

Dunne  should  have ended  up in a court   of  law
he more or less  got away with  it

Shame   on racing that he got such a light sentence

This will never go away it sells…..

Keeps them all in a job, sadly

Bryony only had 5 rides so far this year

I agree with Lampus 100%

ITV have become the mainstream red top tv broadcasting version of the guardian. Unsurprisingly, as the CEO is the former CEO of said guardian.

I think she is winding down to retirement tbf…

The Dunne fellow will scratch around picking up the moderate getting a wage

Hollie last 14 days, 2 wins from 39 rides, -£32.50

Lot of mute material on ITV now…

I don't know about ITV being red top, but their racing presenters irritate me. Bring back Julian Wilson (sadly deceased) and Brough Scott - oops, showing my age now.

Red top from the mirror side of things. So the 'behind the glass' editorial decision making will always now be from that perspective. There are 5 terrestrial channels and in my opinion only one of them is not riven by the new social disease. Although there are still isolated pockets of brilliant production among them, such as 24 hours in police custody. These are extremely rare gems, however.

24 hours in police custody is a must watch…imv

Channel 4 news is also for me

Racing is very well served by itv, racing was in danger of not even being on tv,the bbc cant justify showing racing every Saturday.itv give more coverage than c4 did, plus it’s mainstream, presentation is pretty good.

Even today, efffectively no racing, yet they still put it on,

5 races at ascot and chelt,Dubai, breeders, arc.
Sunday racing league.

Racing is very lucky, with the help of bookie adds to fund it.that it gets so much coverage, plus the morning show.

A good mix of seasoned presenters,ex top jockeys, and a bit of fun.

Better than Claire balding hounding sheik Mohammed.

It's absolutely brilliant in my opinion ace, and one of the very few productions on these channels that remains absolutely free from the woke disease. For the time being at least.

Horse racing would be dead and buried without ITV

The double murder and attempted with the car being used I found vomit inducing stuff, but we keep watching….

You have a point Hayden, doubtful any other would show interest again

Presumably as it remains commercially viable, Hayden. It's not a philanthropic endeavour. It will soon be gone if we go down the Irish route of banning gambling commercials. And  nothing will be off the table if the labour landslide comes to fruition.

More people would watch an old film if racing was called off and that would cost next to nothing to put on..

Anything is possible cider but any prediction on the topic will include the word IF or MAYBE more than once so i'd rather embrace what we have now and stay positive for the time being.

Only watch ATR and RUK myself really but only because i'm too lazy to check the tv listings , do realize though the good they are doing by covering on terrestrial and portraying the fact they're enjoying it as well.

Where would cider be without his "woke" enemies around every corner.

Pretty sure that's not true Billy. However commerciality is not only about the raw numbers. It's about the profile of the viewers and engagement in the products advertised.

Not half as bad a place as we now are, surviving without your daily plagiarism of the guardian and bbc, me old sparrow.

Cider
Labour,abolished betting tax
Tried to build super casinos
Allowed fobts to flourish
Tories
Sold the tote
Banned fobts
Waiting to bring in affordability checks.

I know these facts don’t fit with your view world view.

Plagiarism....... The truth hurts I suspect.

Party politics are not that relevant, the way things are now, and headed. It's too complex to go into on this thread, and drifting OT anyway.

Briefly, what we now have in the Conservative in all but name party is 100 or so true conservatives. It looks like the next election will mean most of those are lost to parliament one way or another. Those 100ish were the only reason for example that the lockdown years weren't quite as brutal as they could have been. Next parliament will be completely different, with nothing to stop the liberalists. No balancing effect, no conscience. Who knows what will happen. Certainly I don't exactly know, I am confident it will be terrible for most of us. HoC, civil service, public services and the upper house will all be in alignment.

Oh yes, forgot to mention the tens of thousands of the faceless people in quangos, CPS, watchdogs etc. And the politicised judiciary. Basically, the establishment. Lord knows what is likely to happen.

Interesting stuff. But I only said the ITN presenters don't rock my boat, but it is good that ITN put racing on so often.

When you have been an observer of sport and life for 80 years you can see how much public opinion has changed. I can remember when Formula 1 drivers were killed every season and nobody suggested making changes. It was relatively soon after the war and death was still remembered in most families. And as for animals being killed in the name of sport, that was never really questioned.  The idea of women in sport was only just being accepted although in Equestrian sport it always was. Pat Smythe the show jumper is a name from the distant past. There have been ladies races at ptps for as long as I remember with Pat Tollitt another name from that sport in the 1950/60 period. It was of course amateur back then in every sport apart from football and somehow women in amateur sport did not raise the same chauvinism as professional.

Party politics are not that relevant, the way things are now, and headed.

This is totally true in terms of PC (I don't like the word woke personally) programmes and influence. Almost all of this new wave has appeared while Conservatives ruled everything in the country. Labour might carry it on (likely the can't stop it even if they wanted to) but nothing to do with old school left wing politics IMO. That is more concerned with real left wing ideas e.g. education or healthcare.

Right wing policy has ironically fostered the growth of all PC power in our country.

I'm sure Chadfan may not appreciate it, but these things are linked, if somewhat tenuously on first look.

The dividing line of left wing right wing does not really exist any more. Where a traditional conservative, ie right wing would say ultimate responsibility lies with the individual, and left wing is all about the collective and the state knows better and the collective should be responsible for the individual. This divide no longer exists, in the duopoly of English party politics anyway.

Almost all new entrants into those parties believe in the collective over the individual. This dates right back to Cameron and his a listing, the central party blob decides who can be MPs, and who can get the best seats. These are nearly all 'one nation' Tories, ie Labour types wearing a blue rosette. They believe in the collective as much as any of the Labour types.

It also touches on identity, and now how the establishment wants us to pin so much importance on an individual's identity (ie immutable characteristics). And how people should be treated differently, based on this. There are the oppressed and their oppressors. The hierarchy of identity. Of course, racing is a perfect target for liberalists because old white men dominate it, and of course are always ripe for a kicking, regardless of any tangible evidence. With no shortage of people to join in with any pile on.

I personally still think there is a difference between Labour and Conservative cider, which is why I am still a Labour voter (though wouldn't vote for either if there was any better option).

I don't think Labour support their powerful rich allies/business people in power etc in the same underhand ways - least not as much. I still see Labour as supporting health and social care better than Tories ever will etc. I hope they are less 'military' minded (though Blair spoilt that idea somewhat as a Labour leader) and less anti-Europe. So, I still see fundamental differences.

But I agree, there is much less between the two parties than there was historically. They are both somewhat middle ground parties.

stu, nobody has any clue what UK political leadership from the Labour party will look like. Starmer simply says what he is told to say. What he is told to say is what his puppeteers are telling him to say behind the scenes. What they will do with the landslide that looks on the cards, nobody knows. As I allude to, there will be no safety net. Nothing to stop them.

I don't really buy the health and social care argument either. Those institutions are more comfortable with Labour politicians nominally in charge, that's for sure. But 1.5 million people work in the NHS. It's not poorly performing through a lack of funds or political direction. It's simply a deeply flawed system.

and should add, that despite being an individual most would categorise politically as 'left wing' I personally hate most of the PC agenda that has overtaken the country/world.
So, it (IMO) has nothing to do with being left wing.

That's partly what I am alluding to. The PC agenda is not really aligned with left wing/right wing, ie old style divide of labour and tory. This is more about political class vs the people, or so called educated vs the workers.

As many people who vote Labour would or should (or indeed are) against ACs as conservatives. The new style of conservatives and labour politicians feel the 'clever' people should be in charge, and the proles aren't capable of spending their own money. I do feel like there is more chance of something radical (and bad) happening in that space, because there would be very little appetite for objection in a potential labour gvnt, indeed within the HoC itself after the turnover.

He's on AGAIN going through us like a sledgehammer to the head.

Totally agree of course about the 'controls' that both parties will try to use on us as gamblers.

Cider  are  you Liz Truss  by any  chance.

Do you laugh at Xmas cracker jokes by any chance ?

Surely PC is what the Liberals have always been about. The reason why the other parties don't call it out is that the media are almost 100% pro PC and crucify any politician who questions it. There is a lot of nonsense about left and right. It depends on the issue. I believe in personal responsibility, free speech and low taxes but am totally opposed to a police state or a military dictatorship which many see as Right wing.

Of course, these terms are obsolete in my view now. However it's not easy to contextualise the current situation in traditional language.

As I alluded to, there is a section of society now that believe the most important thing about you are variables that you can't change, ie variables determined at birth. Which goes back to the oppressed and the oppressors theory.

But also, who is expressing a theory or opinion is more important than what that opinion is. It's evidenced on this thread, 'political' opponents attack the person expressing their position, rather than rationally taking on their arguments or position. They have therefore quite successfully framed anyone who holds a view that could be characterised as 'right wing' as evil.

The infamous mini budget is a great example of this, as when it was first read out to parliament, the official Labour response was they pretty much agreed with all of it apart from the top income tax rate change. Now Truss and KK are characterised as mad people/devil incarnate/far right delete as appropriate. Even though they were proven correct that the OBR would be deliberately negative with their forecasting in order to prevent fiscal changes that they were ideologically opposed to.

Did this used to be a Racing thread?

If there is a labour gvt, it will completely flip and the OBR will be aligning their 'predictions' to suit the changes that labour will be implementing.

It's a long time since we had a dominant Labour party in the HoC. Many will now be too young to remember what it's like. Part of me thinks that the country will get what it deserves, but these people are far more cynical and like many of new Labour's disastrous changes, they will be virtually impossible to reverse, even with a political mandate.

There are multiple elements of Racing that are political blackbarn. Both party and societal. But feel free to contribute if you determine that you have anything worthwhile to add to the thread.

Cider. just one question, how many of your 15?ish contributions to this thread refer to the "multiple elements of Racing that are political"?

I'm not counting, but I'm confident it is proportionately more than yours.

Cider - Not sure what your definition of "proportionately" is, but I appear to be 2 out of 2 (2 out of three now).  You appear to be 2 out of 17ish. Never mind I will leave you to carry on with what appears to be nearly a "lone furrow".

I do know the definition of sad, and it would be counting posts on a betting forum that you are not interested in reading. You're doing exactly what you are accusing me of, but seemingly too dim to realise.

Cameron osbourne,we need to cut spending to drive the economy, live within our means no borrowing.

Boris,we need to spend to drive the economy,we should build a bridge from Scotland to Ireland.more borrowing.

Truss ,we need to give the rich massive tax cuts, then they will drive the economy as  it trickle downs( even though, this is now proven not to work).more borrowing to give tax cuts.

Rishi,we ve no idea how to drive the economy, let’s just blame migrants cos people will vote for that, plus clamp down on benefits to balance the books, but give out loads of contracts to our mates to generate employment.

They ve pretty much tried every bullshot solution, hoping the idiots who believe them will vote for more.

Today’s mail, tax cuts to drive a Lawson recovery, even though he lives in France and seems a bit unhinged.

Basically paying some bed and breakfast hotels and a meagre pittance on the sick,is breaking the bank.but 120 million to Michelle moone and 37 billion on track and trace is value for money.and will super charge the economy.

The worrying thing is,some tories actually believe this and are easily fooled by those who spout it knowing full well it’s a scam.

Why is everyone against higher taxes,
Every penny everyone earns, has made, was made using an infrastructure that was paid for by taxes, without this they wouldn’t be able make their money.

Ryan Moore drives on roads to ascot,to win a grade one,he was educated to help him count his cash because taxes built schools.
Without the tax funded system of the economy,no one could become a millionaire, yet they believe they ve earned their money cos they work hard or shrewd.they are,but only able to do this because the tax payers built the system that let them do this.

Hence they should pay back some,Betfair want the premium charge, because they built the system that enabled their customers to make the money.

Socialism is loved by the rich,to maintain their wealth, but fight tooth and nail to stop the poor having it.

Obviously you should only spend money you have. As a general rule, over the medium to long term, it's the only viable option.

The treasury expects to collect over 1000 billion in taxes over this fiscal year. More than enough, one would have thought.

Kind of a no brainer, what they choose to spend and cut is what counts.
