I would steam out of my ears at misrepresentation in TV adverts. But actually, it makes sense from the ad man's perspective. I always assumed that they were riding the wave, trying to show how on message they all are. But giving an accurate picture of the demographic is the last thing on their minds. That's not the motive. It's all about appealing to the widest range of people for the minimum outlay. If minorities see everyone in an advert is white middle class, then they fail to engage with it. In the same way, if everyone in an ad is BAME, then caucasians won't engage. That's just the way our mind's work, nothing to do with suspect attitudes, underlying or even conscious prejudices, its just the way cultural groups react.
They're not going to make two or three separate ads for different subsections of society so they just mix it up to reach out to everybody at once. Page one of the ad man's textbook. So I give this a pass in adverts, (at least to the casting, the actual content can still induce nausea), but when it comes to colour blind casting in historical drama, thats preachy, and a massive turn off. |

One of the lads says that, "you don't have to bet every week."
How does that work exactly? I'm confused. |

Just ban the adverts and have done with it. The game managed long enough without before they started showing this nonsense.
