I've listened for a good while now and a lot of what they say with how the sports being run rings true and plays out very accurately. It's good natured and light hearted when it has to be and once you get your head round the nicknames they give over a period of time to those within the game it adds up to a really decent listen.
They don't take themselves overly seriously, they say it how it is and usually aren't afraid to call out bad rides or tackle the talking points within the sport.
There's been mention on here before about the podcast and it definitely deserves a listen.

Wasn't John Leng 'Jonjo' on here, and along with Zilzal ( Nick Davies), started up the ' Clerkwatch' thread that attained a somewhat cult status?
Their efforts ended up earning them a meeting with the BHA, but things all went quiet from then on. I suspect they felt they came away with little hope that anything positive would be attained but that's a mere guess.
Anyone know anything more detailed about that chapter?

Ahh right, think it's the first podcast I've ever listened to and I suspect lmost of are not of the podcast generation.
I just think the whole Clerkwatch era was a seal of approval for this forum in it's heyday, when at the same time Millington was characterizing the whole community as being persons with mental health problems not fit to be given crayons.
I never posted on that thread as I think it was for those who every day, studiously study the stick readings then compare them to the official going descriptions.
Problem seemed to be that some joined the 'cult' and got a bit too carried away - I seem to recall that halfway through one Royal Ascot meeting one poster accused the clerk of heavily watering one side of the course to switch the bias, resulting in Ratpack coming on and cautioning him that he was risking libellng himself.

Thanks Leith - have been dipping in and out and it is testament to how the enthusiasm on here back then was in a different stratosphere to now. June definitely worth a read.If all would have seen the state the sport would be in 15 years later, they'd likely have ceased posting for good right then, which a considerable amount have done in the intervening years.

i was a bit bored this morning so i gave this a listen (half way through currently)...
and the bloke who said 'these parliamentary debates are window dressing nonsense' is correct...
you get about half a dozen folk there...
nobody is watching it online (coz it won't be on BBC Parliament)...
and generally speaking it's MPs talking about things they know fk all about and are just reading a script...
so whoever was talking about it is spot on...
just going through the motions garbage.

I hope they talk about the Non Jigger Fainche and The Poor Sexy Farmers Club gamble that landed on Sunday! They are light-hearted, and I enjoy the show, only just recently tuned in
I'm wondering if anyone on here could tell them my above points please? As I don't use Twitter any more.
Thanks Lads

Stuart spot on there, it's not about the rights and wrongs of gambling, the argument should be to the broader public: do the government have the right to tell people how they can spend their own money? Cuz if they get away with it regarding gambling, what will be next to come under state control?
By the way, when they were discussing horses being sold abroad and that even Joseph O'Brien had two of his better horses sold to Hong Kong. I looked up which ones:
Group 1 second Islandsinthestream (Ire) (Wootton Bassett {GB}) and the group-placed Mythology (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}) have both been sold to Hong Kong interests and will race on in that jurisdiction, Joseph O'Brien confirmed to The Irish Field on Tuesday.

No doubt at all that after they have just about wiped gambling out then they will turn onto Alcohol as the next target. The puritans are in control of our institutions, health service, quangos and politicians so anybody who wants to have a little enjoyment in life you are going to be restricted to treehugging, knitting and making ragrugs.

I think gambling has been around as long as booze, but most of the state control brigade will like a drop or two…
Just take out the flashing light and noise material and the job is done…….but they are so fkn greedy they want the jacket you wear……

SW speculating that ARC which has 40% of racecourse action don't want racegoers because that involves laying on facilities/staff/wages. Only interested in media rights and churning out dross for betting turnover generated by punters sat in their armchairs. Generating Sunday evening prize-money by skimming off prize money destined for other days of the week.

That is the way ARC want to go. They are already doing it at Southwell, behind closed doors. Only Owners/Trainers and Annual Members allowed in.They are using flood damage as an excuse
BHA should not allow them to race unless general public are allowed in
They did try to get Lingfield midweek winter meetings behind closed doors but BHA said no

to be fair though, jonjo and the quentin guy were both very strong on the winner of the 3.45 at Ascot....must admit I prefer the Sunday Sermon although not really sure what Chris adds to it...added to the fact you can hardly make out what he's saying half the time...now that Calvin's got sick of Bin Reilly and Boom Boom and f@cked off from the betfair podcasts he'd be an ideal addition to the barstads..

I've listened to the podcast for a good while and it is what it is, 3 middle aged guys having a chat about the game, like you would down the pub, round a table, on a Friday night. I've never met anybody involved in the show but it's generally all a bit light hearted and I'm sure none of them take themselves too seriously which is refreshing in itself in this game.
Its a great mix of humour and tackling genuine issues in the sport. For me they do call out many things in the industry that other shows and broadcasters can't or won't, that again is very important in this closed shop we all love where circling the wagons is the norm.
Mentioning their own struggles in their personal lives is also very brave of them as well and not only helps themselves in their own battles but also their listeners who may be going through their own struggles.
I don't listen to any shows for the tips in themselves, it's somebody's opinion at the end of the day and nothing else. For me, it's a show that deserves wholesome praise above all else rather than anybody trying to put the boot in where its not needed or deserved.
I wonder if the scaffolder reads these pages?
"It's like something out of a Dick Francis novel Charles Byrnes"
