We now have a vast amount of all weather racing in GB and it is clearly here to stay - it is even expanding (the all weather finals series, Sunday evening racing). Overseas, racing on dirt and artificial surfaces is highly prestigious, including most of the richest races in the world. But here, all weather racing is overwhelmingly low-level racing (I think the highest-level AW races are still Group 3). There could be a set of winter pattern races on the all weather, serving an AW horse population (rather than as spring prep races for turf horses). As well as being attractive from a sporting point of view, it would challenge the idea of AW racing as "betting shop fodder".

Why have we never developed a meaningful system of listed and pattern races for our all weather racing, given how much AW racing we have now? Is it something that we should do, through the winter? Or are all the decent horses in Meydan? Would it be seen as too much of a threat to jump racing in winter and turf racing in summer? Can anything be done to promote AW racing at a high level in this country?

I bet most of the big yards still see the tracks as greyhound material…..

Where would the (needed) vastly Increased Prize-Money come from .... in order to meet European Pattern Race requirements?

The Levy Board are skint.

The Bookmakers are no longer interested in both - Betting on - and Promoting Horse Racing.

The Racecourses are not going to get hordes of excited and anticipatory Spectators through the Turnstiles - in the depths of Winter - (to Swell the coffers, and consequently fund increased Prize-Money).

Punters who enjoy Turf Group Racing at Royal Ascot, York etc - are NOT AUTOMATICALLY enamoured by the present Group races that are run at Kempton - or Any races that are run at Kempton, for that matter ....and, Newcastle is a nonsense 'law unto itself'.....
- and so is MEYDAN.
Wolverhampton is an unsatisfactory (Below current BHA Minimum bend circumference measurements requirements  - for any new Racecourse)

Personally - The Dirt races - and even the tight-bends Turf Races of the Breeders' Cup do nothing, or little, for me from a Punting point of view.

Epistle over.

Gosden runs plenty on AW and he's not too shabby a trainer last time I looked
if its good enough for him - not sure why others would look down their noses at it
keeps yards ticking over during winter and gives valuable experience for the younger horses
no coincidence maidens/novice races on AW are usually well supported numbers wise

it does beg the question though raised by OP why there isnt more listed/group races when
turf is over til the following March

Ground certainty would encourage connections to seriously look at this after months of preparing a horse for a big race.

There already have been ...

September Stakes (Kempton) -  However ...

KEMPTON Park have also since CULLED the - 2000 and 1000 Guineas Trials - and  Easter Stakes  - due to REDUCED Prize-Money and losing Listed/Group Status  accordingly ...

Which is entirely the opposite scenario to what the OP is proposing.

Still - you can have this - instead ...
