fair play to newsboy just as lucky was appointing his bessie to head of BHA,newsboy pointing out owners, trainers ,staff dont fund racing punters do and 99.9% of them are losing punters, but where fellow silver spooned bessie mates are concerned lucky doesnt dop facts or ? his bessies

By:
chicken and egg scenario. i'd say owners primarily fund the sport, losing punters fund some of the prizemoney via bookmaker profits. they are both fundamental for a good product.

By:
there's no sport without owners, and you could have it without betting. indeed they do in other parts of the world.
By:
there,ll always be horses to race to see which is faster than the other as proved by owners, trainers etc telling us 24/7 what will happen to the 10,s of 1000,s of norses if animal right activists get their way and stop racing

By:

cider , when an owner wins a 20k to the winner race how much income tax do they pay on it ?
By:
the easy answer is that it's outside of scope, reality is far more complex than that.
By:
complex but they do pay tax on race winnings ? ( unlike lotteries etc )
By:
No, by default it's out of scope.

By:
in Nh racing english trainers have made their decision regarding ireland and smaller irish trainer,s reached same conclusion deciding coming to uk getting a smaller cut of something is better than finishing down the field behind mullins, elliot,de brom etc in ireland,so presumably the bigger the prize money in england the more times mull, ell,de brom etc will come over,hendo/pumpkin quite with their current prize money rather than gamble it against increased top grade irish horses for better prize money

By:
Just a small syndicate outlay or tiny owner it's irrelevant. But there comes a point where it becomes viable to claw back some tax on exes. Think of the old style landlord compared to running a business, before the gvnt started making that difficult for 'accidental' landlords!

By:
If you run your horse in the name of a limited company to reclaim VAT etc. then prize money comes into the company profits and can be taxed. A private owner who does it as a hobby has no income tax liability so far as I know even if prize money exceeds costs. Not sure about capital gains if you sell one for a million more than you paid for it.
