Sunderland owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus says he was "disgusted" after a bar at the Stadium of Light was redecorated with Newcastle slogans.

The Black Cats Bar, to be used by away fans, was furnished with the signage for Saturday's FA Cup third-round tie.

"I regret to have let you down," said Louis-Dreyfus, 27.

The slogans, which have since been removed after Sunderland admitted a "serious error in judgement", included "keep the black and white flying high".

"I would like to apologise to everyone associated with Sunderland AFC for the events that have unfolded today," added Frenchman Louis-Dreyfus.

"Like our supporters I was disgusted and hurt by the pictures circulating online of the inappropriate signs that have now been ripped down.

"I take full responsibility for every decision that is taken by the employees of our club and you have my word that I will personally make sure that we make the necessary changes required to improve because it is clear there are many areas where we need to be better."

Further images of the bar, which is being used for hospitality for Newcastle supporters, showed signs including "we are united" and "cheer up Peter Reid" - a reference to a chant sung by Magpies fans about the former Sunderland manager.

In an earlier statement after widespread criticism from fans online, Sunderland said the club "acknowledges that a serious error in judgement was made in relation to Black Cats Bar earlier this afternoon".

"We apologise to our fans for the understandable concern they have fairly voiced in response and this sentiment is shared by the club's ownership group and board of directors, who have requested an immediate review is undertaken to determine how this process unfolded," the club added.

'This will be mentioned in 50 years' time'

Speaking to BBC Radio Newcastle, former Sunderland striker Marco Gabbiadini described the error as "embarrassing".

"We've got a group who've taken over the club who you would think, after the last lot we've had, would have a bit more knowledge of how football works," he said.

"There are people from the region on the board. The owner, his club was involved in one of the biggest rivalries in French football with his family's club, and we've opened ourselves up to this. I don't believe it if I'm honest.

"It's embarrassing. This will be mentioned by Newcastle fans in 50 years' time."

bdaq - fair enough. Personally I would'nt touch those odds especially in football, Id rather try and grind it elsewhere than trying to buy it. But each to their own, good luck with it.

Question for Rico & Wicklow because you both generated very similar profits last year....

Was there any soccer profits included or was the bulk horse racing ?

Only ask because i'm always trying to put punters off soccer as it's a mugs minefield to me.

Hayden, made a slight profit on football last year (4/5k) - mostly on red cards/pens. But it really is minefield - anyone who can make consistent profits on football I tip my hat to them.

I've worked both sides of the fence for many years Wicklow and i could have employed a chimp to compile odds for the soccer coupons and still made a profit , thing i remember most about company trading executive days were having a celebration party when the soccer season began and a commiseration party when the season ended.

One of my betting syndicate only plays the specials markets and does really well for us , the edge being that they still cascade odds from the money line chances as a form of matrix so consequently some prices are extremely skew , talking about your markets of cards etc but i never interfere just let him get on with it as i've never watched a soccer game in my life , no appeal.

Good luck this year   Happy

if so...

how have they priced up both the Rybakina and Sabalenka matches tomorrow ?

When: 05 Jan 24 17:27
Yah Hayden you can get some skewed prices on the special markets, but when it comes to match odds and goals, the percentages are always as close to 100% either side, so no matter how good you are, you need plenty of luck on your side to keep turning a profit.

anyhow good luck to yourself and your syndicates for the betting year - I hope the betting gods are with you Happy

Used to love football betting in the past, these days I still do it but massively reduced.

I was about 50% football, 50% racing in years gone by.

Now I'd say it's around 95% racing, 3% other sports, maybe 2% football.

Reason, simply harder to find good reliable value at football, or would take a massive research effort to do so, whereas racing I can find value with my existing methods at about 10% the effort level.

Hibby i did employ someone to give tennis advice and believe it or not it was someone who'd never had a bet in their lives and didn't know a thing about odds , what he did have though was expert tennis knowledge from travelling the tour and being an extremely avid single sport tennis boffin.

I told him to use oranges and give so many oranges to each player so he didn't need to translate into odds , he would sometimes come up with a player 4/6 with 60 oranges when the books were 4/9 the opponent all with valid reasoning.

Employed him for 4 years until i left which may give an indication whether the method worked or not.

Exactly Wicklow , the markets he finds with different companies with such contrasting opinions on the specials markets is sometimes staggering , plenty of opportunity to back extremes with both and take piggy in the middle.

interesting Hayden...

do you have access to the 'win probability' pre-match stuff ?

i always take a look at the odds when i catch that particular stat...

some of them are way off tbh...

can't really remember if it would have resulted in a profit or loss tho tbh.

Some interesting cup ties today.

Lille (5th in Ligne Ooon) beat a team from Martinique 12-0 (I’m guessing this was just a jolly for them) and Real Madrid now beating a team of sardine fishermen 2 nil :o
