Kirk Shepherd smashed his way into the 2008 World Darts Final, as an outsider.
Much publicity at the time.

Crashed in the final with the lowest ever final average.
Only won two more matches in the World Championships again, usually going out in the 3rd round.
Never got further than the 4th Round in another major tournament.

Like it to be different. Hopefully he puts up a decent show tonight, but more importantly performs well for quite a few more years.

Think there was something a bit suspect about the whole tournament,  wright gone in early rounds,MVG hitting single 1 when requiring single 20, and goes out with a whimper etc etc and guess what everyone is talking about darts for the first time in donkeys years.

Add Barry Hearn to the mix something just ain't right.

His display throughout was brilliant but what was even more impressive was the way he handled the defeat, which must have hurt pretty bad, from a sporting perspective. Showed maturity and class beyond his years.

Whats not to like even in defeat he was an absolute Gentleman.

You Win the most stupid comment I've read this year. These are professional sportsman, who dream of lifting the world title.

Interesting game must admit - just when he had victory there the youngster bottled it. Which was somewhat surprising as he shows little (no pun) nerves mostly in this tournament.

The missed double for 5-2 will always be in his head, though he will have many chances to redeem of course.

I hadn’t realised Humphries only won two more legs than Littler.

That double two was unfortunate. Would’ve been one hell of a game had it gone in.

Never quite sure what bottled it means stu as there must be a fine line between so called bottling and just missing the shot.

His " bottle " was never queried before and could be he just wasn't good enough to finish the double at that moment.

slightly harsh perhaps, though he would have known it almost a winning dart to hit as a double, missed it, then couldn't find the game that he'd shown the rest of the tournament, got slammed for rest of the match, so not overly harsh to say his bottle went at least partly in the later part of the game.

I did wonder too about his age and maturity. Then I thought it's the UK, and a local. Nevertheless, do not judge a book by its cover still leaves me with lingering doubts.
